Ibom Air: Why Was Comfort Emmanson's Top Ripped & The Video Shared? by Masterstroke4(op): 1:57am On Aug 13, 2025
The Airline's actions are questionable, from restraining the girl to bundling her off the flight.
Why was her top ripped? Why was the video shared? Instead of escalating the situation, the airline should have called a qualified counsellor or management team member to de-escalate the situation and escort her off the plane politely.

The girl's anger and frustration are understandable, and the airline's response is unacceptable.
They have a lot to answer for, and legal action may be warranted.

Re: Ibom Air: Why Was Comfort Emmanson's Top Ripped & The Video Shared? by malali:
Her top was most likely ripped by this air hostess, watch the video closely.

This hostess came across as power-drunk, forgetting a simple truth: her salary comes from paying customers. Without passengers, there’s no airline and no job.

Ibom Air knows exactly who shared that video, the person filming was right there in front of everyone.

They had every chance to de-escalate the situation, but they chose confrontation instead.

This air hostess should be dismissed immediately and blacklisted from the hospitality industry. Her temperament will cost any employer far more than she’s worth.

Limits of Cabin Crew Authority and the Uyo Incident

Contrary to popular framing, the central issue in this incident is not “a stubborn passenger refusing to turn off her phone” but the unlawful overreach of a cabin crew member whose authority under both Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regulations and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards does not extend to physical detention or arrest without an imminent safety threat and captain’s authorisation.

1. Scope of Cabin Crew Authority

Cabin crew are tasked with enforcing safety compliance, but their powers are narrowly defined.
• ICAO Annex 6, Part I, Chapter 13.2.1:
“The pilot-in-command shall be responsible for the safety of all crew members, passengers and cargo on board… and shall have final authority as to the disposition of the aircraft during flight time.”
→ This means only the captain has enforcement authority in-flight; crew act under delegation, not personal discretion.
• NCAA Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) Part 19.7.3:
“Cabin crew shall ensure that passengers comply with safety instructions and shall report instances of noncompliance to the pilot-in-command.”
→ Reporting, not unilateral physical enforcement, is the stated role.

2. Lawful Restraint Threshold
• NCAA CARs 19.7.5(a) permits restraint “to prevent acts which jeopardize the safety of the aircraft or persons therein.”
→ A switched-on phone in “safety mode” — while a regulatory violation — does not in itself meet “jeopardy” threshold unless it directly interferes with aircraft systems.
• ICAO Doc 9811 (Manual on the Implementation of ICAO Security Provisions, §4.2.5) warns against the use of force in “nonviolent noncompliance” situations, advocating de-escalation and post-flight enforcement via law enforcement.

3. Unlawful Restraint Risk
Under Nigerian Criminal Code:
• Section 365 defines unlawful deprivation of liberty as detaining any person “without lawful cause.”
• Section 366 extends liability to anyone who unlawfully confines or restrains another person, even temporarily.

Once the hostess physically prevented the passenger’s free movement without an imminent threat and without law enforcement present, the act crossed into potential unlawful restraint. This is particularly critical because cabin crew are not sworn officers.

4. Escalation Misconduct
Rather than following protocol — documenting the violation, informing the captain, and involving security upon landing — the crew member initiated a physical confrontation mid-cabin, leading to damage of the passenger’s clothing.
• This outcome is inconsistent with ICAO Annex 17, 4.3.7, which mandates that “screening and control measures shall be applied in a manner which is efficient, effective and avoids unnecessary inconvenience or offence.”

5. “Other Passengers Complied” – A Legal Irrelevance
Passenger rights are individual; compliance by others has no bearing on the lawfulness of force used against one passenger.
• ICAO guidance and NCAA enforcement policies treat each passenger’s case separately.
• Group behaviour does not legitimise an otherwise unlawful individual action.

6. Power Intoxication Indicators
Behavioural red flags suggesting power intoxication rather than legitimate safety enforcement:
1. Over-personalisation of noncompliance as defiance against crew authority.
2. Escalation to physical confrontation without captain’s formal order.
3. Public humiliation and avoidable physical contact, creating reputational damage for the airline.

The legal ceiling for cabin crew authority ends at:
1. Issuing the safety instruction.
2. Reporting noncompliance to the captain.
3. Implementing restraint only in the presence of a credible, imminent threat to flight safety.

By ICAO Annex 6, NCAA CARs, and the Nigerian Criminal Code, this incident demonstrates:
• No imminent safety threat justifying force.
• No lawful arrest authority by the air hostess.
• Clear deviation from international best practices in passenger handling.

This was not safety enforcement , it was a public act of power overreach, executed outside the legal boundaries of aviation authority.

3. ICAO Doc 9811, §4.2.5 – Handling of Nonviolent Noncompliance.

National anthem will be singing a land where no man is oppressed

That means we rise in righteous indignation at this kind of thing

A total boycott of ibom Air is needed at this time, and we must all speak up for justice for the lady, investigation and prosecution if guilty of all ibom Air cabin crew and the captains on shift that flight

Compensation of the victim and clear guidelines for this kind of situation in future

That girl displayed high level of madness that day and as u know mad people roam the street naked but then my take is the crew members right now might be on edge ,due to frustration of knowing that kwam1 who did worse is now going to be their ambassador...they might be regretting not touching the man small

It was deeply heartbreaking to see the lady treated in such a way - an outright violation of her privacy.

For u to make this kind of statement, I want to believe u haven't seen the video because it's impossible for u to have seen the video and still come up with this.

The lady was reported to have assaulted a fellow passenger who she dragged her wig and gave multiple slaps, as if that wasn't enough she was also caught on tape resisting pleas when crew members tried to reign on her to calm down.

She was unruly and uncouth and was going physical so it's normal to block her till security officers come around.

Her top wasn't ripped but it was a crop top which barely covers her body and in this case where she was carried it's normal for the half cloth to give way.

Who b this guy self?

Call a counselor for a raging n unruly person who isn't willing to listen to anyone?

Over 10 people are trying to calm her down n u are talking of one counselor, I guess the counselor will put JuJu for mouth?

Or u think counseling is like magic that will work instantly?

We have so thrown morals away all in the name of trying to form woke that we don't see any big deal about a girl slapping someone old enough to be her mother but we just want to sound woke n foreign so we ignore that assault and talk about other things.

The question I will ask u is that since u refused talking about the way the lady slapped d air hostess, is it right?

If the air hostess were to be your mother, will u say this?

Welcome to Nigeria, where the wrong is the best, the right is a crime. And the crime is the law.

The speed of the press release tells a lot. The country is just upset down.

Watianoengineer:
Peter Obi took side with this unruly girl because she is Igbo. How can a girl be fighting in an aircraft and people are comparing her offense to KWAM1 that was almost murdered by a reckless pilot?

I hope sane Nigerians now see the reason why characters like Peter Obi can never be president. sad
Be ashamed of yourself, The girl is from Akwa Ibom.
Re: Ibom Air: Why Was Comfort Emmanson's Top Ripped & The Video Shared? by Image123(m): 12:57pm On Aug 13, 2025
Okay, we get the point. Let's forget all the girl's actions and focus our anger on the powerful.
It's not questionable that she slapped an air hostess. It's not questionable that she refused to switch off her phone when told to. It's not questionable that she dressed inappropriately which made her easy to expose. It's not questionable that she kicked at and physically assaulted many male airport staff. What we must do now is defend this weak harmless girl against the beastly powerful airline.
Over 100 passengers but one has to be bundled out, let's have justice for the bundled.
There was outcry few days ago against a man almost killed by a plane. He didn't touch any airport staff, slap any air hostess, or kick several airline workers. His crime is that he's rich/"successful", and perhaps political affiliation. No objectivity, just outcry by the same people.
These same people will not wait for police before bundling you or worse out of their car, workplace or house if offended. They'll not wait for court order or warrant. But seeing others, it's easy to judge anyhowness on one and leave the other.

Two wrongs don't make a right. She was wrong first, but now having been treated wrongly too, the case is a little complicated.

The first video I saw was the video of Comfort attacking and hitting the security guys on the ground and they weren't doing much to restrain her or fight back,, I was wondering why the chill.

Then later on I saw the video of Comfort when she was being dragged out and down the plane and the subsequent exposure.
Instantly I understood why the men just chilled grin

Obviously what they had seen had gotten them into a trans, and their heart softened.. grin

True True that borbi set, I no go lie grin grin

I bet Comfort would be receiving a lot of anonymous calls and DMs especially from that Akwa Ibom, Lagos zone henceforth.
grin grin

Give some people a place of authority then they will suddenly become demi-gods.
Since Airhostesses realize they have the power to request deboarding of difficult passengers, many of these women have been shown to abuse power. I was watching a video online how the same air hostess convinced the pilot that a passenger was posing threat on the plane and he had to return the flight to deboard the passenger. This is straightforward bullying and must not be encouraged.
This crap needs to end. I cannot be paying over 200k for a flight only to be harassed by a woman whose salary is not up to my return-ticket. Airlines should have a feedback system where imbalanced flight staff are reported and they get punished if they have more than 3 strikes against them.

Factcheck0001:
the problem with u lots is that u are emotional and not logical
Typical Nigerians!

Never unbiased, always judging things based on emotions.

The only wrong the airline did was their denial of knowing who released it. Start from the person who recorded it that you know well and work your way up to those that person shared the video with. The person might not have leaked it personally but their carelessness caused the leak. Take responsibility.

All of you condemning Comfort's behavior have probably never been provoked or pushed to the wall!
If you face the same embarrassing situation and the kind of humiliation from the airline staff as the girl did you might behave in like manner.

She could have walked out when asked yo. She brought all these on her self.
Looking at the video it's easy to.see that her shirt ripped in the process of removing her.
Next time, simply complie with rules regulations.
