Fuel Consumption Drops 16% To 1.44bn Litres In June 2025 — NMDPRA by Omooba77(op): 11:50am On Aug 13, 2025
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has reported a significant decline in fuel consumption for June 2025, with total fuel evacuation falling to 1.44 billion litres.

The Director of Public Affairs, NMDPRA, George Ene-Ita confirmed in a report on Wednesday that daily fuel consumption had averaged 48 million litres, correcting earlier reports that suggested a lower figure of 38.94 million litres.

Ene-Ita said that the total fuel evacuation for June was precisely 1,440,768,129 litres, representing a 16.42 per cent decrease compared to May’s total supply of 1,768,812,804 litres, a drop of over 290 million litres.

According to him, the figure represents a daily average evacuation of 48,025,604 litres, which is obtained by dividing the total monthly volume by the 30 days in the month under review.

Breaking down the fuel supply figures, the NMDPRA reports stated that in June the Automobile Gas Oil (AGO), called diesel, saw a slight increase in diesel supply by 1.73 per cent, reaching 432.18 million litres compared to May’s 424.83 million litres.

In spite of this, diesel distribution (truck-out) declined by 23.23 per cent falling from 552.35 million litres in May to 424.06 million litres in June.

It further showed that the Household Kerosene (HHK) supply and distribution both recorded a 13 per cent decrease, with June figures at 7.79 million litres, down from nearly nine million litres in May.

The sharpest decline was seen in automotive gasoline supply, which dropped by nearly 48 per cent from 72.36 million litres in May to 37.66 million litres in June.

Distribution also fell by 16.54 per cent within the same period.

The NMDPRA’s report also detailed fuel truck-out volumes to individual states, totalling the 1.44 billion litres evacuated in June.

The report showed that Lagos received the highest volume at 205.66 million litres, followed by Ogun with 88.69 million litres, the Federal Capital Territory with 77.51 million litres, and Oyo with 72.81 million litres.

The decline in overall supply and distribution suggests continued challenges in the petroleum midstream and downstream sectors, impacting national fuel consumption patterns in June.

The NMDPRA, however, pledged to work closely with relevant stakeholders to strengthen distribution and guarantee an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products across the country. (NAN)

The percentage will continue to drop as more people on daily basis are getting pooper. Even those have vehicles have packed it because they can't afford buying fuel, feeding family and other responsibilities.

On the other hand, it could be as a result of the improvement of power supply witnessed lately across the country. It's not compulsory that you must think negatively all the time.

Tinubu policies has made other regions poorer as people travel less and can't afford to fuel generators during power outages

When will ebilokan drop the price of petrol below January 2023 level, as he promised?

Abi e no be ọmọlúwàbí ni huh

Deltafirstson:
Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.

In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.

However, pump price of fuel hit N537 per litre days after Tinubu ended subsidy.

On Tuesday, the price climbed further to N617, a development that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) attributed to “market forces”.

Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.

Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.

At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.

However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.

King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, a Fuji musician who performed at the rally, interrupted the president’s speech with chants as the crowd cheered.

On the campaign podium with the president were Vice-President Kashim Shettima; Pa Bisi Akande, interim National Chairman of the APC; Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President; Senator Gbenga Daniel; among other bigwigs of the ruling party.

Tinubu went further to say Nigerians would defy the acute fuel scarcity at the time and trek to cast their votes.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200/N500 per litre. Go and relax, we will crash the prices,” he had said.

I love this your sarcasm sir. Please keep it up.

Meanwhile, let me find a free food location before hunger strikes.

A large crowd of Lagosians was filmed in a long queue struggling to collect a loaf of bread. To maintain order, several military personnel were on the ground to control the crowd. This has triggered a lot of reactions online.

Many factors maybe responsible for this either improved public electricity supply, more people going for green energy mostly solar power (this seems to be the major reason) or maybe car owners are now using public transport.

Buhari has always been a crook. They were claiming subsidy payment was increasing because they were simply stealing the money without bringing fuel. Subsidy was never the problem it was the corruption that was the issue.
