You obviously don't know anything about football. Our home based eagles losing so scandalously wasn't because of lack of motivation. They lost because they were not good enough. It's that simple.

I think it has to do with colonialism and interaction with the west. Their geography is closer to the west than to the middle east. When the colonialists held sway in places likes Egypt Algeria and Libya, they did not bother about the likes of Saudi and Qatar for they had little or no resources

Very true. Colonial and cultural affinity and proximity with Europe has made North African teams more competitive than their ME counterparts. Also, the afcon is the oldest continental football competition in the world. The rich history of west afrrican football in the competition has helped better the quality of those Arab countries in Africa. That said, apart from Egypt, every other NA country hasn't dominated African football like Nigeria and Cameroon and the rest in West and central Africa. That's not also to say that Egypt and co are better than Iran and Iraq, etc. In fact, Iran has qualified for more World cups than Egypt.

Iran qualify for more world cups because they had to play their fellow middle eastern/Asian countries which have far inferior qualities than the African countries Egypt play. So comparing them because of world cup appearance may not hold. Why not use head to head
