Good morning great minds. Please can anyone help with the best bond I can use to make this toilet still without shaking when sat on?

I got a plumber to remove the old unit and install this new one but I'm quite disappointed at his job. He used a tube silicone (I think it has a blue label) but the toilet wobbles. Can't say whether it's the material or he's just not good at it.

I've watched a few YouTube videos about how it's installed so I plan on scraping this one off and doing it all over again. But please, what bond is best for this purpose? Thank you sirs.

Omo!!! What does your plumber do for a living? What an untidy anyhow job. This is about the worst application of silicone I've seen in my life. And I've seen a lot. This is not acceptable at all.

Solution:

Normally, by both sides of the pan or/and at the back, there are holes for screwing it to the floor. This should be screwed to the floor and then apply a thin layer of silicone. If your pan does not have screw holes to screw it to the floor, na anyhow toilet you buy just like the anyhow job.

It will be a struggle to achieve stability if relying only on silicone as stability will depend on the smoothness, and level of the floor (plumb). If the floor is uneven, surely, it will wobble. If there are no screw holes, you may want to use cement instead.

Thanks sir for the helpful response. The toilet is Golden Diamond's product and it doesn't look like it's designed with screw holes like you mentioned.

I guess I'll just have to do with the silicone and cement options. But please, what product of silicone do you recommend?

And also, is it the normal building cement or the white cement used for tiles? If it's the normal building cement, will I add soil to the mix?

Abeg please pardon my elementary questions. grin

From your picture, I noticed that the toilet bowl is fixed on tiles. The floor is already tiled and the attempt was made to gum the toilet to the floor using silicone. This may be the source of the problem. In this situation, to use silicone effectively, the floor has to be dead flat and level, and the toilet bowl securely screwed to the cistern (where water dey enter) and the cistern securely fixed to the wall at the back. If the cistern is free standing and not fixed to the wall at the back, it will wobble. So check first how the whole thing is fixed not just the bowl.

To use cement method, you Will need to remove the tiles around the toilet, make a shallow hole on the concrete floor, partly fill the hole with cement mixture ( normal cement with sand) and place the bowl inside and then cover the rest of the hole with the cement mixture. Wait to dry and then tile back.

Use the attached picture to gain inspiration.

The cement method is not recommended except you want to use it to raise the height to make it comfortable for the elderly or those with kneel problems.

Thank you sir. The cistern is not fixed to the wall, so maybe that's why it wobbles. The gap between the cistern and wall is a bit wide, around 9 inches. I think the unit bought wasn't the best design for the toilet since the flush pipe came from the ground instead of the wall. I'll look for another plumber to access the whole situation and proffer solutions. Thanks for your help and insights.

I'm not a fan of cement method to be honest. But in a desperate situation of health and safety associated with a wobbly toilet, cement method may help. Nothing beats screwing the bowl to the floor and screwing the cistern to the back of the wall and then finish off with silicone.

Toilet flush pipe connectors are either on the ground or from the wall.

From your originating picture, it seems the toilet seat you bought does not come with holes at it's sides to run screw through it into the floor or through the tiles ?

If I'm not mistaken, the toilet seat removed was also fixed onto the tiles and not directly on the concrete floor?

I also do not think it's the 9" gap you talked about between the cistern and the wall....

Probably you should post another picture of the whole set up as it is.

Also if for any reason your toilet seat did not come with holes to run screw through it onto the tiles or concrete floor then it means you need to make use of cement at the sides to hold it instead of the silicone otherwise you'll still get that wobble effect when it's in use.

You also need to ask yourself what changed between the old toilet you removed and this new one..?

There are two pictures below.
Real life and internet. I hope you can understand without extra comments.

There's a funny saying where I come from: No one can beat me for my decisions and actions that isn't a threat to someone else's life. At the bolded, you wouldn't beat me if I said I did the job myself so why would I lie that it was a plumber that did the job?

It's a rented apartment, never had one of my own so I could have been experienced in my choice of handyman. I guess this is a needed learning curve though.

To your question, the toilet is exactly the in the second picture you posted and it has those holes as circled. But the plumber didn't leave anything behind so I can't say if it came with screws or not.

Yes, the toilet has screw holes.

Yes, the unit removed was installed directly on tiles, not concrete. I don't know whether screws were used though.

I'll try to take better pictures tomorrow and post here. Thank you.
