Presidential CNG Initiative Donates CNG Buses To FCTA

In line with the objectives of the Presidential CNG initiative (Pi CNG) and the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to fast track the Country's transition to cleaner, more affordable and more sustainable transportation system, the Pi-CNG Limited, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, handed over 4 Hybrid Powered CNG buses to the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

move is in furtherance of the collaboration between the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited and the Presidential CNG Initiative to promote affordable and clean energy transportation in Nigeria.

Presenting the keys to the buses to the FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, at the occasion held at the FCTA Complex, Programme Director/Chief Executive, Pi-CNG, Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi, stated that the NNPC Limited is supporting the deployment of CNG-powered buses to advance sustainable transportation, reduce carbon emissions and improve public mobility, saying, “This Handover Note documents the delivery and receipt of 4 CNG powered buses for deployment under the Pi-CNG operational framework”.

He added that the FCTA shall be responsible for the operation, upkeep, and maintenance of the CNG-powered buses throughout their service life, asserting that the Pi-CNG shall monitor their deployment and impact to ensure that the buses are actively utilized for their intended public service purposes.

FCT Minister, represented by the Mandate Secretary, FCTA Transportation Secretariat, Dr. Chinedum Elechi thanked President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the initiative, reiterating that the buses would greatly improve the FCT’s transportation system.

"The Honourable Minister of the FCT has always stated that there is no modern city without a robust public transportation system", Elechi said. He added that the FCT is committed to developing its transportation infrastructure, citing the recent commissioning of two ultramodern bus terminals at Mabushi and Kugbo, with plans for more buses to follow.

The highlight of the event was the signing of agreement between the Pi-CNG and the FCTA, and the Mandate Secretary’s inspecting the buses and receiving their keys on behalf of the FCT Minister.

It really Irked me when Wike, last year said this will be delivered by May 2024 in celebration of Tinubus another year in office. I was bewildered, like you mean you have these buses but you want to use them as a political tool?!?

Little did I know, that not only did Wike not have them available then but he himself didn't even know when they will be, lol! Nigerian Politics very disgusting.

Well at least they have started to deliver. I hope however they can completely paint the city with these buses in steadfast time.
