Bandits Launch Second Brutal Attack On Lataworo, Kwara As Residents Flee by iwaeda(op): 11:35pm On Aug 14, 2025
Gunmen suspected to be bandits are currently attacking Lataworo community in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, forcing residents to flee for safety.

This marks the second armed incursion in the local government within a single day.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the latest assault had thrown the community into chaos, with villagers abandoning their homes in fear.

The exact number of victims kidnapped during the attack could not be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

This is not the first time Lataworo has come under siege. On June 30, suspected armed bandits carried out coordinated attacks on three villages — Gada, Lataworo, and Kokodoko — all in Edu Local Government Area, injuring several residents and local vigilantes.

The recent spike in violence has heightened concerns across Kwara North and South, both of which have been grappling with persistent terrorist attacks in recent months.

The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest incident.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that suspected terrorists attacked Lema community in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State on Thursday, killing one unidentified person and abducting two others.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the day, throwing the quiet community into panic.

Residents explained that the assailants are still believed to be within the area, prompting urgent calls for security agencies to intervene before further harm is done.

Kwara State has witnessed a disturbing rise in kidnappings and ransom demands in recent months, particularly in the northern and southern parts of the state.

On August 13, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that a group of terrorists had unleashed yet another night of terror in Kwara North, abducting four residents of Gamalegi village in Lafiagi Emirate, Kwara State, during a late-night raid on Tuesday.

The attack, which occurred at about 11pm threw the sleepy community into chaos as gunmen stormed in, firing sporadically before whisking away their victims into the bush.

A resident who spoke to NupekoTv-Lafiagi under condition of anonymity described the scene as “hell on earth,” adding that the attackers operated without any resistance from security forces.

The source said the gunmen, heavily armed, invaded Gamalegi under the cover of darkness and seized four villagers before disappearing into the bush.

While the identities of the abducted persons and full details of the incident remain unclear, the source confirmed the raid happened late Tuesday night.

This attack adds to a growing list of violent abductions terrorising Kwara North.

Only a night earlier, armed men stormed the Lade community, kidnapping three people.

Days before that, the Gbale community suffered the abduction of three residents, including a one-year-old child.

The escalating wave of kidnappings has plunged the region into fear, with residents repeatedly appealing for an enduring and effective security deployment from both the Kwara State government and the Nigerian government to safeguard their lives and livelihoods.

Four days ago, gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Babanla community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing two people, including a police officer.

A source told SaharaReporters that the incident occurred last Friday while local vigilantes were holding a meeting in the area.

The source explained that the exact number of those killed or kidnapped could not be confirmed as residents fled the community in fear of further attacks.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the bodies of a police officer and another man could be seen lying in a pool of blood.

Share gun for everybody! Some people say no it will cause chaos. Is that chaos not better than this gradual impoverishment through ransom payment, mass rape and mass killing which is increasingly spreading to all parts of the country? Well, if Nigerians don't take right step early enough, there may be no Nigeria very soon with the way all states have become abattoir

Be sensible for once. Can they match the govt in power when their votes are being diverted? It is not everyone that appear to vote that actually voted.

But seriously, jokes apart , Kwara never had this problem until about the start of this year. How do these bandits move into new territory without the security operatives noticing?

Clearly this is a gradual push down south.

This is no joke, Kwara shares boundaries with numerous peaceful South Western States.

Must Nigeria be plunged into total chaos and anarchy before the Government uses brute force and an iron fist to destroy these terrorists? What would it take?

Kwara that was very peaceful as recent as last year don enter their own crisis now.

What must be done to call a spade a spade in Nigeria? How much lives must be lost before we tell people an inconvenient truth that they have been turning a blind eye towards?

Sharia invites Islamic extremists from all over to your state, announcing Sharia is calling the Islamists extremists to a caliphate, they see any state with sharia as their caliphate to dominate and conquer. If you let a bunch of self serving men jeopardise the collective safety of your state, then that state indigenes are cowards and docile.

For your own safety resist sharia in your state, Nigeria is a secular nation, we have the courts and constitution of federal republic and state laws that guide us, religious laws can not govern in a secular state.

Monday night that 3 people where abducted in LADE I was in the village. The situation no funny at all. Gradually Edu and Patigi local government is getting deserted. Villagers leaving the area and business dieing, farmers can't go to there farm, everyone living in fear.
Monday afternoon around 4pm, I saw The soldiers deployed to the area heading towards patigi in convoy then I asked some villagers why, they said only patrol during day and return to patigi in the evening to sleep. So the bandits mostly strike in the night. The governor seems na joke until price of food stuffs increases cos most farms are being abandoned. The LADE villages said it's being over 3 years they saw light last, they depend on solar for those that can afford it, bad road, the governor only focuses on the state capital. It's so painful, don't even know what kwara north is enjoying under this AA government.

EDU/ PATIGI local government needs urgent attention. The area is bleeding.

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

Security is the responsibility of your governor, unfortunately, many Nigerians are unaware of what the laws of the land say. In the South West, we created a regional security outfit called Amotekun, whose main purpose is to curb banditry. I’m not sure if Kwara State or the North Central region has a similar security outfit.

Tinubu: why are people clashing. This is a communal clash between farmers and herders. We will resolve it. I have instructed the governor to reconcile the issue and allow peace to reign. We will bring peace, everyone can live together as one.
