Alaska was once owned by Russia until russia sold Alaska to amarica in 1867 for just 7.2 million dollars which is approx 130m dollars in present day value.

It was the greatest mistake ever made by Russia.

Present day Alaska is now an oil state generating billions of dollars.

Militarily, Alaska would have been an advantage to Russia in spying America or maybe enhance relationships between both nations

There is a reason Afghanistan is called the burial ground of empires. The Persian empire, British empire, Soviet Union and Anglo-American empire all invaded Afghanistan at several times in history but all packed their bags and left.
