Gunmen Abduct Hausa Newspaper Editor Sani Ahmed On Abuja–Kaduna Road by Editorialtimes(op): 7:24am On Aug 16, 2025
A journalist and editor with the popular Rariya Hausa online newspaper, Sani Ahmed, has reportedly been abducted by unknown gunmen while travelling from Abuja to Kaduna State, The Bureau News has gathered.

According to information obtained exclusively by The Bureau News, Ahmed left Abuja around 8:00 pm on Thursday to attend a programme in Kaduna. At exactly 10:00 pm, he sent out an emergency message indicating that he had been kidnapped. Since then, no further communication has been received, and his current whereabouts are still unknown.

Comrade Yahaya Abdullahi, a member of the Take-It-Back Movement who confirmed the incident, said Ahmed had mentioned earlier in the week that he would be travelling to Kaduna for the event.

“He left Abuja yesterday evening heading to Kaduna for a programme. Unfortunately, the only thing we heard from him was a message saying he had been kidnapped. Since that time till now, we haven’t heard from him,” Abdullahi told Sahara Reporters.

Growing Concerns over Abuja–Kaduna Road Security

This incident is the latest in a series of abductions along the Abuja–Kaduna expressway, a route that has become notorious for bandit attacks and kidnappings in recent years.

Only a few days earlier, five persons were killed and two others kidnapped in Kaduna State, despite the launch of Governor Uba Sani’s “Kaduna Peace Model”, which promised to deliver sustainable peace and security across the state.

Witnesses reported that the attacks occurred in multiple areas, including Giwa, Galadimawa, and Millennium City districts.

In Nasarawan Fatika (Giwa LGA), three men — Alhaji Sagir, Mallam Hassan, and Muhammad — were killed when bandits stormed the village in the early hours of Monday. According to Muhammadu Sani, a resident of Giwa, the victims were all family breadwinners, leaving behind dozens of dependants struggling to cope amidst the current economic hardship.

Later on the same day, Badamasi Sani was shot dead on his farm in Galadimawa, while several of his cattle were reportedly left with bullet wounds.

In another attack in the Keke area of Millennium City (Chikun LGA), Malam Ibrahim Danjuma was killed, while his son and another relative were kidnapped.
Danjuma’s wife sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Call for Stronger Measures

The abduction of Sani Ahmed and the renewed wave of killings have raised new questions about the effectiveness of the Kaduna Peace Model, with residents urging the government and security agencies to adopt stronger and more proactive measures.

As of the time of filing this report, The Bureau News has not received any update regarding Ahmed’s safety, and his family and colleagues continue to appeal for urgent intervention.

He will be released very soon. Infact this is a good one because it will keep our security to remain awake along that axis, the seem to be over confident that nothing can happen along that route again.

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

That's not true. That route is very, very safe. Sincerely speaking. But if you know any 'ordinary' person that has been kidnapped kindly share the person's details so that work can be done in getting them out immediately. Thank you.

Former Head of State and Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Major General Muhammadu Buhari has faulted the federal government’s clampdown on Boko Haram Islamic insurgents.
He accused the government of killing and destroying their houses while the Niger Delta militants were given special treatment by the government.

Buhari who first spoke in Hausa before the English version accused politicians from the Niger Delta region of starting the current in security in the country by recruiting and arming youths of the region in their desperate attempt to retain power as governors.
The former Nigerian leader said that unlike the special treatment given to the Niger Delta militants by the federal government, the Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished by government.

While accusing President Jonathan of failing from the beginning to address the security situation in the country, Buhari said he has never been in support of the state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa state.

“How did Boko Haram start? We know that their leader, Mohammed Yusuf started his militant and the police couldn’t control them and the army was invited. He was arrested by soldiers and handed over to the police.

The appropriate thing to do, according to the law, was for the police to carry out investigations and charge him to court for prosecution, but they killed him, his in-law was killed, they went and demolished their houses.

“Because of that, his supporters resorted to what they are doing today. You see in the case of the Niger Delta militants, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua sent an aeroplane to bring them, he sat down with them and discussed with them, they were cajoled, and they were given money and granted amnesty.
“They were trained in some skills and were given employment, but the ones in the north were being killed and their houses were being demolished. They are different issues, what brought this? It is injustice”.

The moment you say there is peace in any part of the north, they are sponsored to attack immediately just to spoil the government.

All the bandits and their sponsors in the North will be thoroughly dealt with.

The unfortunate shocking problem with insecurity in Nigeria is the fact that terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, double agents, saboteurs, unpatriotic elements, fraudsters, have now made their way to the seat of government across various levels both at the national and sub national levels.

So were you really expecting a criminal to confront another criminal? Not in Nigeria, they simply are sympathetic to them, they also shield them.

Very pathetic. What was meant for the honourables is now being desecrated by these dishonorable fellows. This is not an unpatriotic bad prophecy, but the truth is that Nigeria as we all know it is headed the way of gogoltha as a failed nation due to the wicked acts of these human beings.
