Tinubu Stabilising His Mess – Aisha Yesufu Faults Okonjo-Iweala by Ofunaofu(op): 6:33pm On Aug 17, 2025
Activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised World Trade Organization Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, over her remarks commending President Bola Tinubu for stabilising Nigeria’s economy.

In a post on X on Sunday, Yesufu questioned why Nigerians should give Tinubu credit for stabilising what she described as an economy he had destabilised.

She argued that the economy has yet to return to the level it was before Tinubu assumed office, adding that the claim of stability would only make sense if the president had inherited a worse situation.

Yesufu said Nigerians were being asked to commend Tinubu for “stabilising his own mess,” insisting the country’s economic state remains far from recovery.

She said: “First of all, she started by telling Nigerians that they should give Mr. Tinubu credit for stabilising an economy he destabilised and has not even taken to the bad state it was in before he came in.

“Give credit to someone that threw the economy into an unprecedented bad state because he was now stabilising his mess? What is the stability being compared to?

“If Mr Tinubu had met the economy worse off and there was now stability, then her statement would make sense. The economy is still not back to where it was when he snatched power from Buhari. Is it? So what credit are Nigerians supposed to give?”

I hate people that only criticize but can never profer any solution. If you want to criticize, do it sensibly and logically. You can't just be throwing abuses upandown and expect sensible people to respect your opinion. Both President Tinubu and Ngozi Okonjo Iweala are not your mates. You are just a fake activist trying to sound informed. What do you even know about economy? Abeg shut up pls 🤫

She must make that mental gymnastics in order not to look like a complete lunatic.
Imagine Aisha Yusufu faulting the judgement of Okonjo Iweala.
At what level was the economy when Tinubu came in? When subsidy could no longer be sustained through borrowing? When the economy was on the cliff about to tip over?

In what way(s) has the economy improved under tinubu?

Let us know so that we can commend him.
Have we stopped borrowing?
Have we tamed corruption?
Have inflation reduced in real life? Inflation only reduced on paper under tinubu.
What about security?
What about our exchange rate?
Tell us why we should commend tinubu with hunger and insecurity.

The main motive behind the subsidy removal on fuel and floatation of FX was to make more funds available for capital expenditure and projects instead of borrowing.

The big question is, are we still borrowing or not?

If we are still borrowing despite subsidy removal, it means the core purpose of subsidy removal has been defeated.

If the likes of USA are still borrowing heavily, who are we to be forming self sufficient?

You don't want government to borrow unnecessarily yet still don't want them to increase the tax. How then would you run the government?

To build a five bedroom duplex in Nigeria before Tinubu was inaugurated in 2023 will cost you around NGN35million to finish.

As at today, to build a five bedroom duplex in Nigeria cost between NGN95million to NGN120million depending on your finishing taste.

Land is not included in the above cost.

Tell me how can a Nigerian civil servant or salary earner that is not into one form of office corruption or another build a house with his or her salary/allowances?

To build a bungalow in Nigeria now cost between NGN40million to NGN55million, land cost not included.

So tell me how Tinubu stabilized the economy if not on mere paper and paid media?
