How big is Africa? 🗺️ 🌍

The African Union (AU) has backed a campaign to urge governments and organisations to end the use of an outdated 16th Century map.

They say the Mercator map distorts the size of the continent, making it appear smaller than it really.

Instead the AU favours the use of the Equal Earth map that reflects countries’ true sizes.

Arabs should not speak for the rest of Africa. They have done more harm to the African continent than good

Let Africa correct the geography textbooks used to teach her children first.

The African Union should urge African countries to adopt the correct map first.
You can't urge the world to adopt something that isn't the status quo in your own countries.

Education charts, atlas and maps still feature the wrong size and these are printed in China, Indo and India.

If it is going eradicate poverty and bad leadership in Africa, then I am all for it

Truth about what?

Is AU telling African leaders the truth?

If it cannot itself and Africans leaders the truth about bad leadership, is it oyinbo it now wants to preach to?

What is the benefit of the map when Africa cannot feed itself and provide for its people?

It's ridiculous when A is proposed and you say "do B first"

Even if B were carried out first, you would still want Q to be done first.

I guess that's why some ignorantly think Africa is a country rather than a continent. Africa will conveniently house the whole of USA, China, India and every single European countries (Except Russia) and still have rooms left but asking the world to adopt a map that shows Africa's true size, to me, sounds like a misplaced priority and really won't move a needle. We have bigger fish to fry.

If you are sure of your words then get your team to produce her own and start using it in all your documents and all your text books and start using it on all materials and image rights. stamp, balls, shirts, etc. You must sell yourselr

This AU members lack sense, why do you need the approval from other continent for this!

Simple: Revise all educational and historical records in Africa to reflect the proposed reality

Na shayo dey worry those AU people. Africa still struggle with same problems as 30 years ago and even worse and all they sit down to discuss are trivialities like map size. We always blame everyone else but ourselves for our misfortunes

Africans don’t have a voice…we are still enslaved but just remotely. Stop decieving yourself….when we truly become independent we can now think of fighting for actual size on the map. Putting the cart before the horse will only make them disrespect us the more.
