President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Tokyo, Japan, for the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled to hold from August 20 to 22 at the Pacifico Yokohama.

In a statement on Tuesday, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, said the President landed in Japan early Tuesday morning local time, where he was received at the presidential wing of Haneda International Airport by Hideo Matsubara, the ambassador in charge of the airport for TICAD; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; and officials from the Nigerian Embassy.

The Japanese government initiated TICAD in 1993 as a triennial forum to promote Africa’s development in partnership with global institutions. The summit is co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission, and the World Bank. It alternates between Africa and Japan, with Tunisia hosting the last edition in 2022.
