What Happened To The Days Of Nairaland Writers Co-authoring To Make Front Page? by meobizy(op):
Many of them are still on Nairaland. Being on the front page isn’t a big deal to them anymore. Eleven years ago, they used all the tricks in the book to make front page. What happened? They’ve realized the futility of the act? They’ve grown up and become wise? What exactly?

. Don't blame them.......if Seun should monetize this his Nairaland, don't be surprised to see how creative some of us are......But since he has refused to do that, that's why most of us, especially myself only come here to catch cruise..

11 years ago country not so hard...

People had time to do research and write.

Attention span got shorter... people prefer you tell them what you have to say with short pictures/videos. Enter tiktok, Instagram etc.

Newspapers, magazines aren't left out. They are fading away slowly.

The world is evolving...the challenges of 11 years ago are not the same as they are today!

People are older and wiser. It's unwise to put so much effort into an unrewarding venture.

Why will anyone want to write articles on nairaland that only puts profit in the pocket of the owner when they can monetize the same articles elsewhere?

I’ve always said this. It seems our Nigerian dailies have not learned to adapt with time. Many western newspapers have cut their word counts to five hundred in total. Our Nigerian staples still create two thousand plus word articles.

Number 1. NL literature section is almost dead...

2. Making FP guarantees more headaches than accolades especially if your story is still a long way from completion.

3. Writers are going extinct, readers now refer audio books and visuals than reading...

Last and not the least, not many writers get sufficiently rewarded for their works so the zeal is not longer there....

Thanks bro for this thread...

It shows the dearth of our reading culture as a nation. The literature section was one of the sections that made me active on Nairaland, following mind blowing stories from great writers like Royver, and Sammyluv and others (Everybody is a Genius... I See Things Others Can't See... My best stories on Nairaland) . These guys made me improve in both reading and writing especially online. Through their online stories and the nosedive of the literature section on Nairaland I have found solace in other international online literature apps like Wattpad and Webnovel... Webnovel is my best so far, everyday, I read great and mind blowing International stories that will make you think of how one could come up with such ideas, the power of literature.

Seun, please do something about the literature section, be pushing interesting stories to the homepage like it's used to before.
