Hamas never said they weren't releasing the hostages. There was an agreement signed to that effect and prisoner exchanges were going on, until Isreal pulled out of the deal, and said it was no longer prepared to release any more Palestinian prisoners in exchange for any Isreali hostages. A;; hostages must be released unconditionally.

When Hamas refused, Israel resumed the war.

For your information, when Isreal killed those guys in Iran, some of their families died with them
