Nigerian Senate After The By-Elections by NaijaphiliaBlog(op): 4:58pm On Aug 19, 2025
The number of Senators on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has now increased to 72.

Aside the earlier gale of defections that raised their number from the original 59 in June 2023 to 71, the APC on Saturday 16 August 2025 clinched 1 more senate seat via its candidate in the Edo Central Senatorial election, Dr Joseph Ikpea.

Apart from the APC, the only other political party that gained an additional senate seat on 16 August 2025 is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Below is the snapshot of the senate seats currently held by various political parties.

Chai, pdp is not as it was before.

I see APC getting the full 2 -3rd majority by others defecting to it

APC is a seat short of an absolute filibuster in the Senate. Before the end of the year, they should be able to get that absolute majority.
Re: Nigerian Senate After The By-Elections by Racoon(m): 6:46pm On Aug 19, 2025
It happened to PDP back then. APC should enjoy it while it lasts. Another political dispensation will arise again until Nigeria gets it right or continue on the precipice till it tilts over the cliff.

Our politicians and no values at all, always jumping 🦘 from one ruling party to the other just for their own selfish reasons.

The party system should be in a way that any party that brings you to power you stick to it if you consider leaving the party while holding that same office you should also leave the office too. This way all this decamping to seek forgiveness of sins to a ruling party will be a thing of the past.

Achievements to the political parties......

Loss to Nigerians ...

But look at the indices, if not for defection, that was geared by selfish interests and protection from the watchdogs , one will see that the noise of the ruling party is defeated and the voice of the masses enthroned ....

We didn't get it right when your beloved party was in power and you didn't expect Nigeria to tilt over but now that your party has disappeared into oblivion, Nigeria may tilt over. Laughing

And what would they do with the absolute majority that would impact ordinary Nigerians? Does Tinubu face any opposition in the house of assembly prior to now on any request put before the house?
