DoctorStanley:Sometimes dignity is better than money. Nigeria doesn't need American money to be rich, the country needs better elites and a civilising culture. |

HydraFeeds:This is ridiculous. It is like Man U winning the cup and your concern is that some players were not born in UK! |

DoctorStanley:A good point but do you know that several Nigerians became Chelsea and Arsenal fans because Mikel Obi and Kanu Nwankwo were signed respectively ? The same applies to Oshimen going to turkey that now gain more attention among several others Nigerians , just like Ronaldo going to Saudi popularized the league or Messi going to US . Nigerians spend a lot of money on DSTV which is not Nigerian owned that pays taxes and copyright to UK , Nigeria also bet more on Uk leagues than Nigerian leagues, Nigerian also buy jerseys and other kits which directly contributes to Uk economy but Nigeria sport is left to ruin that's one of the reasons that local players are not well paid . Now let's compared it to other African countries like South Africa , Egypt , they're the most developed because most of their players play in local leagues and their citizens spend a lot on these leagues instead of spending it on foreign leagues ! |

HydraFeeds:You kind of making my point. Their eyes were fixed on the money NOT reciprocity. Suppose those teams start reasoning that Nigeria is not hiring players born in their own countries? They were instead focused on how much tickets such big-name players would sell! |

DoctorStanley:I may not get your point in this ,but from my own deduction, they're concerned about the values these Nigerians will add to their economy, which proves my point that Nigerian going to these countries are not liability but assets. While it might seem impossible for a player like Osimen to get paid the amount he will be paid in Turkey locally ,these countries didn't just start from nowhere and boom they're the most developed. For instance ,US was not a very great country let alone a superpower pre WW2 but they continued to strive to develop US and now they're the only superpower. They didn't abandon their country for greater country like UK , Germany or Japan . Some of their forefathers like Washington, Rockefeller stayed home and developed US to what it is today . My point is that we don't need to beg to feed from any foreign country but we can look inward and develop . No country in the world is doing Nigeria favour , instead they're brain draining Nigeria . |

DeepSight:I may not know but rely solely on publicly available data . What I'm sure of is that US companies like Shell are involved in our petroleum production which was the backbone of Nigeria petroleum industry before Dangote comes in and it's a lot of money . |

HydraFeeds:But US also did not reciprocate stupidly, which is the topic of this thread. They always had their eyes on the money NOT on some stupidity. I bet you if the roles were reversed US would not reciprocate because they know it would only cost them money. Assuming US decides to impose 50% tax on any remittances from Nigeria, will Nigeria reciprocate and impose 50% tax on remittances from US? It's NOT everything you reciprocate!! |

DoctorStanley:For example, do you know most expatriates hardly pay taxes in Nigeria but dem no born you well make you no pay the exorbitant tax when you work in the US? They always find a way to game the system aided by our corrupt brothers and sisters. |

| Re: Nigeria To Demand Social Media Disclosure From Americans by MatrixCircle: 9:09pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:It's not true. Americans make more money in Nigeria than the entire population of Nigerians living in the U.S make . Do you know how much Chevron alone makes from Escravos in Niger Delta ??, what of Texaco, and not to talk of their Tech companies oo. |

It's NOT everything you reciprocate!! Someone comes to your shop to spend money. You go to his shop to make money. He says he'd start charging you a small amount to come to his shop. You angrily retaliate and say you'd also start charging him to come to your shop!😅 |

| Re: Nigeria To Demand Social Media Disclosure From Americans by HydraFeeds(m): 10:47pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:For instance, when Nigeria minister of trade appeared on CNN ,she spoke about exploring alternative markets due to Trump tariff, the same applies to other countries. Which means that America is actually losing not gaining cos there will be more inflation due to the tariffs and scarcity . Trump didn't think of all those negative effects but proceed to reciprocate tariff and even slammed higher ones . Consumer taste is funny ,why did people still buy expensive products like Lexus or Benz over cheaper ones like Toyota or Honda ? It's because of the service these expensive ones could offer or the standard they will be placed in the society ,the same thing happens when you sell your country cheap ,tourist will consider it less attractive even without other events like insecurity or so . Never sell yourself cheap man . |
| Re: Nigeria To Demand Social Media Disclosure From Americans by DoctorStanley: 11:27pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
HydraFeeds:This is one of the most myopic posts I've ever seen. Why not let's stop making anyrhing in Nigeria because made-in-China is cheaper! People want jobs with decent wages. If you have it you'd have trouble keeping people out of your country. On the other hand if you don't have it and at same time have insecurity and same time have unstable govt and possibllity of coups, you can sell yourself expensive all you want... |

DoctorStanley:Nigerians don't understand tourism. Everything is gra gra to them. Implement visa free access to citizens from countries with a GDP per capita of $20K. Sure way of attracting tourists. |
| Re: Nigeria To Demand Social Media Disclosure From Americans by Vision101(m): 12:24am On Aug 20, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:Nigerians that go to USA for medical treatment, holiday, schooling (not japa), business etc. spend money there and they don't make money there. These are the majority. Those that go for skilled work visa are few because it's not easy to get and America needs their skills as much as they need their dollars. Using post graduate route as japa is not common because of the visa restriction. |
| Re: Nigeria To Demand Social Media Disclosure From Americans by HydraFeeds(m): 12:51am On Aug 20, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:Haha ,it's ridiculous the way you say myopic all the time. Economy is flawless ,Toyota is cheaper than Benz but if both are placed side by side ,I believe you will choose Benz . Every sensible people knows that local manufacturing is encouraged because they want to make the same products that's imported with cheaper price and perhaps better quality. People go for Chinese products in US because it's cheaper and it's not readily available in their home country, that's why apple etc all have their factories in China . If it's readily available in each home country considering , natural resources, labour ,skill set and infrastructure, why go to China ? But it will be unwise of US to reciprocate tariff when they don't have the ability to produce such products in quality and at a lower price but they proceeded anyway to prove a point. Check countries that were most visited in Africa last year ,they're tougher on US than Nigeria yet Americans prefer them to Nigeria because of the things they will enjoy in these countries,e.g Morocco,South Africa,Egypt which boils down to my point that you don't sell yourself cheap or try to impress a girl . People know what they want and no amount of advertisement will sell a bad market . Which means we should look internally for development instead of crawling and grovelling under the feet of people that don't rate us . That's when our stock we rise and we don't have to advertise before we sell . |
