SWITCH OFF PHONES, OTHER PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES DURING FLIGHT TAKE-OFF AND LANDING," CAPT. NAJOMO TASKS AIR PASSENGERS

Director-General Civil Aviation, (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has tasked air passengers to ensure they switch off their phones and other portable electronic devices during flight take-off and landing.

He also directed Nigeria’s airline operators to amend their Operations Manuals to reflect this requirement and submit to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for approval.

Capt. Najomo gave these directives today during an emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee (NCASC) meeting convened by the NCAA in Abuja.

This is understandable and acceptable. Laws become more strict when people refuse to be civil.

Necessity is the mother of invention. If the people in Nigerian space have been safety conscious, civil and law-abiding, this new law would not have come into existence.

But my only problem is, will this law be the same for both the rich and the poor or will the rich be above the law?

Something that is not obtainable in other climes. Nigeria has been on a downward spiral since the terrorist APC seized power.
So a sane person can't stay for at least 2 hours without his or her phone
decipline is now downward spiral smh 🫤

Normally, the instruction is to always turn off phones according to ICAO standard. However, some flying passengers are often obstinate to this safety instruction. I strictly observed same when I flew from Abuja to Lagos

Switching off is more logical and practical
No one has time to check every phone to see whether it is actually on airplane mode
Re: 'No More Airplane Mode’: NCAA issues new directive on phones, electronic devices by Hedonisco: 5:36pm On Aug 19, 2025
I have never switched off and never will. I simply tuck my phone away in my pocket when the flight is about to take off, recline into my seat, and think about my life for the next hour or so until the plane lands, that's it.

Can they not install a network jamming device or system at the planes?

You can use when airborne, but turn off when sliding up or gliding down.
So when the plane is airborne, you can do your snapping

No
Not advisable, the plane needs the network too

So they know this and decided to withdraw the case against comforthuh

In my opinion, let her serve her jail term and also fine the airline heavily for allowing the explicit video leak online...

That way, everybody learns a lesson...
Passengers learn to be disciplined at all times and airline operators learn to be professional at all times.....

So what will it cost you to switch it off

Just a simple instruction.

Is it this hard?

It will jam the signal the pilot will be needing.

exactly what they are avoiding will be the end result.

They should post large signs of this and the date it was agreed on. I don’t see any problem with following the guideline. People in the past always turned off their phones at fuel stations and airports. The white man who set the rule relaxed it eventually.

You don't know that it's for your own safety? You can never tell how incoming calls and so on can affect a plane's navigation during takeoff and landing.
