"You should be sources of joy to your host communities"---Ibas charges corps members

The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas Ekwe (Rtd) has charged the 2025 Batch B Stream I Corps Members deployed to the state, to be a source of joy to the people of their host communities.

Ibas gave the charge at the closing ceremony the batch's orientation course at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tail Local Government Area of the state.

Ibas said bringing joy to the host communities is imperative especially when it is considered that Rivers people are accommodating, hospitable and charitable.

The sole administrator represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman NYSC State Governing Board, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika further charged the corps members to see the state as their home.

"You should serve selflessly to leave enduring legacies in your host communities."

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Moses Oleghe thanked Ibas for the acquisition of 1,000 brand new mattresses for corps members use on camp.

"We also thank you for your commitment to upgrade the camp infrastructure soonest.

"We however lament the impact of rain on the overall activities of the camping exercise, especially the flooding of the camp market.

"This is a menace and we appeal to the state government to urgently intervene to provide solution to the problem."

Oleghe advised the corps members to accept their posting in good faith and use the service year to develop soft and hard skills.

"You should also develop leadership communication, problem solving and specific technical skills that would stand you out amongst your peers."

A total of 1,902 corps members made up of 811 males and 1,091 females successfully completed the orientation exercise.
