A man was paraded by youths in a community in Anambra State after he allegedly killed a sacred python.

In some parts of Igboland, the python is regarded as a sacred snake and must never be killed, not even for food such as pepper soup. It holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, making its killing a serious taboo.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the snake was wrapped around the man’s neck as he was forced to march through the streets of the community, a symbolic act of shame and punishment.

Across many African societies, communities still hold firmly to their traditions and will not tolerate acts that desecrate their cultural heritage and ancestral values.

I went to Igbo ukwu after nkpor, in Anambra state in 2019, I saw many ball pythons there, living freely and mixing with human beings. If u don't harm any particular kind of animal in a place, they too dont harm you cos they don't see you as threat to them. In my village, orogun, in delta state, iguana mighty lizards live freely with us. Its normal for them to wrestle yam right from your hand if they see you with yam

Mr. Man forget that nonsense you're spewing. The man killed a python and was arrested. It's a cultural thing. They will not harm him, except that he has to pay a fine and perform some rituals. This is entirely different from skull mining, where humans are "suyalized" in Ogun and Oyo States. We all know the epicentre of ritual killings in Nigeria.

What is sacred in a python? Is python not a snake? A serpent? 🤥🤥🤥 How can a serpent be sacred?

Protected is different from sacred though. Totally different connotations. One is backed by law, the other isn't. Yeah, he shouldn't have killed it. When you live at a place, you should respect the culture. No, they have no right to "parade" him. He can sue them for that.
