FoggedBrain:People with innovative mindset don't think like this. If you agree that phone pose no threat to modern airplanes then what is the use for an outdated instruction to switch if off? A whole new onboard WiFi business has been built around the fact that your phone can remain on the plane and telecoms companies are making millions from it. Why are we always stuck in the past? |

I don’t have any issues switching off phones throughout the entire flight. The question here is if our aircrafts are different from other aircrafts flying in other parts of the world or are aircrafts operated in Nigeria obsolete. I have never heard any airline asking passengers to switch off devices, rather they ask you put on air plane mode. Guess there is something they are not telling us. |

What is the use of using ur phone when there 🤔 is no internet till you land? Or you can off your flight mode if you can't off your phone 2 options are there f9r you. |

There is no big issue here. It's just for take offs and landing.... That's all.... They didn't say mid flight.... So why all these noise ? |

JAOS:They are not even saying for the duration, just take off and landing. |

FoggedBrain:Some of us don't obey pointless 'instructions'. The sad irony is that most of you Nigerians are extremely lawless and would seize every opportunity to demonstrate impunity, but when it comes to meaningless public posturing like this, you will be quick to form holier than thou. Putting my phone away in my pocket is enough. Does leaving my phone on when a plane is taking off or landing pose safety risks? Chatgpt: Short answer: No, your phone being on during takeoff or landing does not pose any real safety risk to the aircraft. Here’s the reality: Modern airplanes are heavily shielded against electromagnetic interference. A single phone signal is nowhere near strong enough to interfere with navigation or communication systems. The main reason airlines still ask passengers to switch phones to airplane mode is regulatory and operational convenience, not because your phone can crash a plane. If hundreds of phones are all trying to connect to ground towers at once, it can create signal interference (more like static noise for pilots or ground communications, not dangerous failures). Another factor is passenger distraction. During takeoff and landing—the most critical phases of flight—crew need passengers alert and responsive, not talking, scrolling, or fumbling with devices. So: Risk to the plane itself: Essentially none. Reason for the rule: To avoid minor interference, network issues, and to keep passengers focused during critical flight moments. |

Hedonisco:Still not right. The essence of the law is not about using the phone but preventing interference with the air traffic control signals. Especially during landing and take offs |

Why not install signal jammers on the plans, am sure the planes avionics can be shielded, some airlines do these, they dont inform you but when you enter you don get signals. People are addicted to their phones, they are not making calls but scrolling endlessly. You don't expect people to pay 250k to stay 1 hour in a flying coffin only to have their clothes torn and breasts exposed to the universe by Hot air crew. |

ElSudani:This is tepid. People put their phones on airplane mode where it neither transmits radio waves nor receives them or put off their phones if desired. Its not standard procedure worldwide to put off your phone but it is standard to put it on airplane mode during landing or take off. |

I responded to a similar question. This was my reply. Nigeria is a backward country so it won’t surprise me if they still operate using backward technology. Iamzik: |

JAOS:It's not even a two hour duration, just switch off your phone when the plane is about to take off, on it after the plane is on cruise, then off it again when it's about to land. Simple as. It's for everyone's safety |
| Re: 'No More Airplane Mode’: NCAA issues new directive on phones, electronic devices by GeneralOuki: 12:15pm On Aug 20, 2025 |
Gbadugbakun:it doesn't prevent you from taking pictures. Read the directive properly. During take off, off your phone. Then you can on it after take off. Off it again during landing. Phone signals can jam Plane radar/ navigation signals which can lead to disastrous results. |

Ishilove:this is the same attitude the air hostess had and this is why the aftermath which should have been a footnote has snowballed into a saga and a government investigation. |

indigenous234:amming device when it's not Air force 1? Passenger airlines require this networks to fly too. They need it for communication, radar and navigation systems and this systems usually jam with mobile networks when they are in lower altitude ( during take off and landing) enough for the phones to pickup this signals. So that's why passengers are required to off their phones during these times to prevent catastrophic events. |

GloriousGbola:All of them will face the heat. There have been multiple reports about the hostess' overbearing attitude and now she will go and defend her nonsense character. When we tell people to always behave themselves, they will not hear until they see something that is bigger than their eyes. All the parties involved should face the music |

Iamzik:1.Practically assuming the rule is airplane mode. How can this be ascertained without checking ever person's phone and even after the check people can still switch the phone fully on that is human nature. They are asking for a switch off for landing and take off . Will the world come to an end if people switch off their phones for what is usually not up to 20 minutes 2.It is not outdated sometimes people like you like to show too know . "Me too i have travelled to Morika and they say can use airplane mode.Nigeria is outdated"^ Leave the supercilious self aggrandisement. It simply is not true that there are no other places besides Nigeria that require the phone to be switched off It is a safety precaution. Me too I done enter plane small I have experienced a lot of turbulence not once have I felt that wearing a seat belt saved my life but whenever they say wear your belt I comply They say return to your seat I obey No need to show yourself During lockdown rules changed a lot and later we learnt some rules were not needed does not matter There is nothing so special about switching your phone off for less than 10 minutes for take off When you say something is outdated you mean na oyinbo talk am and dem know pass us. They could be wrong |

Such beauty. What a sight to behold...and you expect me to off my phone, abi? My phone has always been on flight mode.. no wahala, no quarrels, no blocking me from disembaking. These are things travelers have as memories and such are being denied in Nigeria because of oversabi.
