I'm not a teacher but I'll tell you that you are shallow minded because you don't really know the opportunities teachings expose one to in today's era of you're sharp of which you're not.

For instance, I know a course mate back in school who's a private school teacher and is currently earning hundreds of dollars monthly from his tutorial videos on YouTube.

What gave him the motivation, resources and even audience to start and grow the YouTube channel? His school and students...

Don't just look at the classroom and salary, look beyond.
I guess he meant the traditional teachers dt restrict themselves to the classroom only

Good day, fellas. Guys, pls, leave teaching jobs for ladies or married women if you can especially, in private schools. If you want to be a man, do so except you are a government school teacher. The pay won't take you anywhere. Surviving with teaching job now is now very, very hard especially in this current regime. I'm sorry if this thread hurt your feelings but it is the gospel truth. I feel for teachers. Nlfpm
If I may ask which other job do you have for them? that you here saying trash have "bread is better than none"

Mehn, when I worked in some private schools back in the day, I saw shege. From salaries been delayed to oppressive workplace policies, I have seen it all. Like the poster insinuated, young men who want to make something of their lives should avoid teaching like a plague. Except if God is taking you through that path to teach you a few life lessons, please do yourself some good and avoid that career route by all means. I repeat avoid that career route by all means necessary!

We are still saying the same thing here.
The traditional teaching can give you exposure to other things.

Take for instance a university teacher. A sound senior lecturer should be a consultant to at least one organisation or company offering the services of his/her field of expertise.

Our lecturer then told us that his salary is a meagre amount compare to what he earns as a consultant to various oil companies but those companies employed him because he was a lecturer and most times the appointment comes through the school to the department and then the unit in charge of the research and development and one or two lecturers will be selected for the R & D

Not all true.

Some guys get extra teaching classes through the schools they teach

Some make much from that sha, but i see the whole thing in Nigeria as a scam cos its not education but all about exploitation and fraud

You are earning 30k as a teacher? This is very strange and sad. What is your qualification?
I'm a B.Sc holder from a reputable university in Nigeria. It used to be 25k before an increment was made.

And worse still, I didnt recieve the 30k once it was always 20k as I'm into a monthly contribution in the school.

I studied Mathematics and I'm a copywriter transitioning into content writing. I'm also learning software engineering(backend) so if you have a remote job for me hit me up.

used to be a teacher before on a salary of 12500 as at 2017, i had to quit to learn printing..it was hard without no money but i endured. I am far better than i used to be., even though am still not there yet financially. I bless the day the day i took that bold decision. i just cant imagine myself as a teacher now, it would have been suicidal for me..

The challenge is that there are fewer women that can teach maths, physics, chemistry etc
T.D
Fine Art
General and Further Maths (grind and mark exercises widely to the core)

Abeg, make una leave person breath.

I have said it before that both the teaching and the pay are all fraud and exploration in Nigeria if checked from all parties: school, teacher, learner, Ministry and parents

People should endeavour to speak from experience cos they say it's the best teacher...if you have not taught in a private school before as a graduate please dont comment just read ... grin private schools will drain the living day light out of you. Proprietors and Proprietress of these private school are the stake holders in the Educational sector in state as well as country and will do everything possible to block any move to regulate salaries/remuneration (upward review) to teachers.

They made sure that no form of Unionism exist in private school teachings as obtainable also in banks, they make abnormal homugunous profit for example out of 100% profit made they want to ensure 5% is going for variable cost especially salaries, they care less about thier staff welfare but expect them commit their lives to the job even doing research (both offline & online) to bring out the best from peanuts paid.

That's why everywhere you go you will see vacancy vacancy vacancy...Teachers wanted..the most painful is even a school building of just 2 bedroom flat will still write Vacancy...EXPERIENCE teachers needed grin,, eeeh you that cant even pay ordinary teachers you are looking for the experience ones,,who does that.

Am speaking from depth of Knowledge, understanding and experience.
Re: Guys, Leave Teaching Jobs For Ladies by motayoayinde:
Blanket generalisations will always leave holes in your submissions.

Teaching in Nigeria generally (including in tertiary institutions) is poorly remunerated.

However, there are schools, especially in Lagos and Abuja where the entry level salary is above 600k. Some teachers earn up to 1M per month and they're not management staff.

Why do the mods allow this type ignorant threads on front page? Just cos private some private schools don't pay well, doesn't give u the effontery to go sexist and misogynistic to prove a baseless point, are u trying to say only females are worthy to be paid poorly? Instead of u to direct ur grievances to the government by suggesting that there should be a nationwide regulation of teachers salary, u had to come spew total ignorance and gender bias here, caution urself and try to be wise next time smiley

Be wise, it not that hard, then apply intelligence in every aspect of life, it is better to not be seen as an illiterate, or someone without sound mind, unable to see things through the lens of gender bias and ignorance smiley

You're right, I recently tendered my resignation to my school management. Can't imagine earning 30k per month and only collecting 20k as 10k goes for contribution.

The reason many are still there, is because they don't have options.

If someone is ready to support some male teachers, many would have dropped teaching to learn one skill or the other.
You worked for 30k a month as teacher

Was it part time teaching?

The worst thing that can happen to a human being is being a private school teacher in Nigeria.

Not really part time, I go to school 4 times a week from 8am to 2pm.

It was the highest paying teaching job I have had though.

Most of full time I did, didn't pay up to that.

my friend offered me teaching job in a private school, the salary is 40k. I have been contemplating to accept since last 3days, but seeing this your thread, I have decided I will not do it.
If you don't have option, just do it. That job is now only suitable for married women or guys or ladies who live with their parents.

Brotherly you nailed it on the head seriously, I’m earning 60k a month teaching maths and physics in a private school, which doesn’t last up to a week after payment, rendering my resignation letter after this summer lesson, I can’t really continue like this please…

Bros , please accept it , no knowledge and experience is waste. It's better than idleness and begging.

I love teaching if I have other side hustle that can fetch me better pay. I see teaching as my own contribution and given back to the society. Teaching is all about Passion and anything you are passionate about will surely reward you at the long run.

Negotiations is very important when picking a teaching job in a private school. Open your mouth and negotiate with the school owner concerning your salary and the days you will be coming to School. Don't just accept what is tabled to you. If one school is not giving you good working conditions, approach other schools. Cheers.

30k and yet deductions and also workload,
I taught JsS1 to sss3, writing lesson notes for all the classes.
The most triggering part of it was seeing the students bring out mouth watering dishes in your front and be eating.
