What Do I Do With These DI Printing Machines From The US? Advise Needed by foodlum(op):
I just sent 11 big printers from the US to Nigeria. They are 5 year old machines, rarely used by the government agency I bought them from in the US.

This is the list of machines and their model numbers:

7 units Sharp MX 6071 printers
1 unit Ricoh MP C4503 printer
2 units Sharp MX-6240N DI printers
1 unit Sharp MX-8090N DI printer

-Does anyone know anything about these machines?
-What business can be done with them?

Then why did you buy them and why are you sending them to Nigeria. You confuse me even more than you confuse yourself.

Good day Sir/Ma

I’d like to speak to you on getting involved in a different set of items from the us government. I’m guessing this was gotten from one of the auctions.
Not being there in person is a major factor hindering me from being able to participate in auction and surplus sales. Cause buying blindly without an inspection is risky business.
Medical devices & equipments… for the brands and modalities that sell the most in Nigeria?, We can take the conversation off Nairaland, if you’re okay with that.

Ps: I’m based in Lagos

They were bought with the hope they can be used for setting up a business related to printing in Nigeria.

Then meet an expert/consultant to guide you on how to set up instead of acting like you don't know why you bought them.

And if you are having cold feets, you can set them up for sale at a reasonable profit for you.

You have the option of keeping quiet. If you have nothing constructive to contribute in the way of expert technical guidance or specific entrepreneurial path enlightenment, silence is a honorable option for you. Your unnecessarily combative criticisms and garrulousness are not what I seek by posting here. Thank you.

I will advise you as a printer that i am, just sell them to other countris that use sharp, or printing press in nigeria that uses sharp and are conversant with the technical repair. Or you seek the advise of a DI machine technician to advise you.

REason i said you should do the above is because is because the most commonly used printing DI gear in nigeria is konica minolta, which is what most DI technicians are conversant with. Any other other product will not sell and even entrepreneurs will not buy machines that the part is not easily accessible.

so next time during auction, make sure you buy only things that are easily sold off in nigeria like laptops, phones, cars etc, not machines. Even if you are going to buy machines through an auction just make sure you have spoken to a technician in nigeria who iunderstands the machine and its market within nigeria.

The main reason why most of this european machines or american, japanese are not wildly used in nigeria is because of the cost of maintaining them. Entrepreneurs love to buy cheap machines from china, especially the ones that are easy to maintain with cheap accessible parts for repair.

LIke for instance, almost no one uses roland, large format machines in nigeria, because they are costly and parts are very costly. the profit ratio to cost ratio is very low, so they go for chinese branded products like the smartjet with dx5 printheads which are cheaper than its counterparts, this is because entrepreneurs are more profit concerned than the quality of the machine and availability of price. Most of the chinese models are manufactured mainly for 3rd world economies.

just my own 1 cents, and an advise for future auction purchase.
