I just calculated my tax now and must say I'm impressed by what I saw....but there's a challenge.

What do I get from the government in return for the tax I pay?

I dug my own borehole and lay my own water pipes. I paid for my own healthcare and education. There's no more subsidy according to the government themselves.

The electrification of my house now cost over 3x what it used to and with that, I needed to have backup from my own pocket.

Security is almost nonexistent in my village.

So what exactly am I paying tax for?

Just a reminder..... There's no country that has ever taxed it way to prosperity. Taxation is not the ideal way to raise money for innovative governments. Only slave drivers think taxation as a vehicle for prosperity.

Rich government, poor citizens.... Nigerians are the easiest people to govern. All you need is sell the good side of the story to a few gullible ones.

Tax will enrich the government, no doubt but do you trust any Nigerian politician to not loot?

Nigeria's problem is not revenue generation. More money only means more to steal.

If Tinubu is really serious about helping the government generate more money, he should have started with blocking leakage and excessive government spending.

What he's doing now is like fetching water inside a basket 🧺... He will dry up the pockets of the taxpayers in no time. This aggressive taxation will only drag more people below the poverty line.

Electricity is zero, roads still bad, no proper waste management in most cities, few government estates, education is history, Agriculture is a shadow of itself. Zero innovation, Security is ZERO. No jobs for graduates, our money is now dust compared to other African countries.

are u from lagos? Because one thing i discovered is that, the indigenous people of lagos are widely travelled people so they don't have time supporting bad governance and bad behaviour in lagos supported by other yorubas from other states in southwest. You cant be sure if im in lagos or not. As a Nigerian I can reside in every part of this country. Growing up in my village,I knew so many yorubas living with us so you don't have any point.

It’s what most accountants are fixated on mostly. While Economists bother more about inflation and value first, accountants are first of all focussed on balancing the books and increasing numbers (revenue). Tinubu needs a seasoned economist as special adviser on economic matters not just Wale Edun.
