Is it me that many Indians, Chinese, Filipinos and others are coming to Nigeria to do business both legal and illegal. But at the same time, many Nigerians just want to relocate or Japa. They make good money here in Nigeria , and do well here. Is that Nigeria do not have skilled workers? Or Nigerians can't do business well or they lack good work ethnic or do not have capital to start any business? When they hire in Nigeria, they pay their fellow countrymen very well but pay Nigerians slave wages in many cases. To add insult to injury, when Nigerians go to these foreigners countries, the grass is not always greener in many cases. Nigerians face discriminations, ridicule and so on, Nigerians do menial jobs in their countries that pay poorly. Dubai has put a visa restriction on Nigerians below a certain age if I am corrected. Many Nigerians are locked up in prison for drug offenses, or various crimes offense. Now small African countries like Ghana are shouting they do not want Nigerians in their country. |

atoliman:Where is your evidence of this? You people just come online and type your little prejudices without backup. Show me one Nigerian being paid 'slave wages' by foreign companies. Show us the person, say his job, and show us his pay check, let us see. Don't we have a minimum wage in Nigeria? |

atoliman:Most times they come with enough capital and government support, talking about the Chinese. Some of the businesses they come to Nigeria to do, they cannot do it in their home country because of competition there, but when they step out to third world countries like Nigeria, their capital and idea becomes a huge business outfit. It's all about exploring opportunities, Igbo people from Nigeria do same. Another thing is ingenuity. These guys have a lot of ideas and solutions in their home country which they know that they cannot compete with others in their home country, so they migrate to Africa where there is population and problems to test the waters which ends up favouring them. This is exactly what many Igbos do. Some grew up in commercial cities like Aba, Onitsha, etc and when they spot ideas, they know they cannot compete with the big players in similar businesses in Onitsha or Aba or Lagos, so they package the idea, gather some capital and migrate to smaller African countries and startup a business there and with time they become big players in that small African country. If Biafra had succeeded, you would have seen more of this type of migration from the Igbos just as Chinese are also doing. There are some business ideas in your area that you cannot start and compete with the big players in your area, but if you package that business and move it to a new upcoming community, you will become a successful business owner with time, but unfortunately many Nigerian youths don't think in this direction, all they fantasize daily is how to secure a paid job that will pay them millions so that they can start enjoying life and carrying fine girls the next month, they don't want to cultivate the ground first. Many are scared of leaving their comfort zone where they grew up, many are scared of exploring other states, regions and communities, all their Japa desire is to migrate to Europe, UK, US, Canada, Australia where they will land today and find good paying job tomorrow and start earning big and start enjoying life and building houses tomorrow lol |

Apart from infrastructural decay Nigeria is a very good place to do business, if you want to cut corners. Due to corruption you can get almost anything you want. Provided you have the money or a connection the law in Nigeria is always for sale to the highest bidder. |

Most Asians that come here are into two kinds of businesses; 1) distribution/retail and (2) illegal mining and sales of solid minerals. Nigeria is a huge market for retailing products, but unfortunately there are no federal government laws to regulate this areas in a way that it could be used to create jobs for more low income earning Nigerians. Rather, the federal government seems to even see the presence of these foreigners who come down here, import finished goods from their country, store them in warehouses and then recruit their relatives from their home countries to come and help them retail to Nigerians. Essentially, driving Nigerians out of their default traditional job areas. Lebanese, Chinese and Indians... I guess the federal government is nonchalant about this because these foreigners have not ventured into cattle rearing yet.. As for illegal mining, most Nigerians are totally unaware of the trillions of naira that is stolen from this country on daily y basis as a result of this. Precious metals are mined all over the north, the middle belt and in some places in the south. The government ministries and agencies associated with supervising this area are full of either corrupt officials or folks who do not know their left from their right. Most mined minerals are sold to these Asians, who have very sophisticated routes for not just spiriting their loots out of the country, but for making seamless payments in a way that can't be tracked.. So until the government tackles them, you will continue to see more of these "investors" trooping in left and right, without seeing any reasonable solid investments in Nigeria coming from them.. |

I read all the comments and none attempt to answer the op question. The op is talking about illegal immigrants to the country and illegal business and of course how this foreigners misusing Nigerian. Do you know that Obasanjo destroyed many things in this country...The problem started when he introduced contract job and he told the companies that they have right to set up a salary they could afford to their workers even without following national minimum wage. And also put their fellow foreigners to a strategic position why Nigeria will place to a position where they will never appreciated. A system that Ghana rejected...It was yar'adua that trying to cancel that system before he suddenly passed on. I pray this present administrative could look on to the matter government need to set up a committee to look at how this foreign companies operate. Apart from Europe and America company there no where I can work because Asia companies in Nigeria are just exploiting Nigerians. |

atoliman:These countries you mentioned are sometimes the sole owners or highest share holders of these companies and they have the hand to employ their people and they can also defend that with qualifications in terms of practical skills. For instance a M.Sc holder in civil or electrical engineering in most cases cannot stand a graduate of a technical college (secondary school) from china |

Yes some government agencies aware of it because some of them are benefit massively from it but people that it concern most might not aware of it Labour Congress union fo example this pressure Group are supposed the one to fight against it but because its not really concern them because its private companies not civil servants. And labour union leaders always going to those private companies to collect bribe in the name of that they represent workers. ObiORBiafra: |

atoliman:rich foreigners with capital in dollars are the ones coming. The average Nigerian has no access to capital. Foreigners are also more respected here than the average Nigerian. Bank loans are like 30% you expect the poor Nigerian to take that for business? 😂😂. An NYSC friend of mine was earning 25k back then, he later found his way to Dubai as a security guard 110k with accommodation . Also one of our former housemaids went to qatar to do house maid for 2 years. 100k salary for 2 years. While in Nigeria she earned 15-25k. Can you blame them for taking those opportunities? Dey play |

Aydot99:Sometimes I can't even blame our leaders cos imagine the guy you quoted as an adviser to a governor Imagine what he's saying, something he's not even sure of and he's stating it as fact I have seen people worked under the most extreme conditions under these foreigners and yet if you complain, you're either sacked or even arrested in your own country ooo Maybe the maga thinks we have a working labour law in Nigeria Sha 🤣 |

Go to Zamfara, Nasarawa, Jos, Ilesha, Ilorin, Taraba, Bauchi, Abuja, Kano, Sokoto and kebbi then you will see that we have so many Chinese businessmen and worker's in Nigeria. Many of them in the North are mainly into Mining, both illegal mining and some with license are into legal mining. I met a Chinese man in Nasarawa who vowed never to leave Nigeria. He has been to many countries in Europe including America, UK and Australia, but he said it was in Nigeria he became a billionaire. He owns a Mining Company. Do you know what, the corrupt system favours them. Chinese are very corrupt and fraudulent people. |

I'm a firefighter Instructor and the least salary in where I work is around 400k but the funniest thing be say I'm a graduate of Mass communication but only go for firefighting training for like 6 month then boom |

This is why we have ministry of labor who makes routine visits to these company to check wage structure, accommodations, and welfare of the labor force and also to check licensing like factory license, ensure pension and NSITF remittance etc. I've worked with Chinese people in two different industries; finance and power and I can tell you they pay the skilled workers or leadership positions pretty well where as the labor workers would usually get somewhere slightly above the current minimum wage. Like now 90-100k Years back when minimum wage was 35 then it was 50. But meanwhile team leads, and technical positions can receive 10 times of that. I can't say anything about India or Lebanese though |
