Hehe the same Taribo that was vibrating in tongues for Tinubu to win elections? U cant eat ur cake and have it bro. Life doesnt change by prayer or wishes it only changes by the choices u make
If Obi had won do you think he would have given the falconers or basketballers anything not to talk of recognizing them after death? Tell me any club Obi spent money on when he was Anambra gov. The only SE gov that vibrantly promoted sports during Obis time was OOK. They even played in Continental finals. Obi was always saying no money. But where did OOK get the money them to promote Abia football club then. I have forgotten the name of the club. Nah China mouth Obi get my friend.

N.B. Just remember now, it's Eyimba Football Club.
Only OOK outspent Tinubu on sports as gov, Obi was no where to be found on anything.

He was there when Nigeria needed him.
Nigeria deserted him towards his end and after. What a country!

Rest on, Dodo Mayana.
He was paid for his representation,it was not for free.
Nigerian Government is not under any obligation to help any ex player.

Rufai was more than just a national player, he was a National Icon
And so?
How many National Icon are they supposed to take care of?
Where they not paid their entitlements?
Taribo should take his own advice and contribute to his colleagues welfare.

They were paid their entitlements.

They always forget the opportunity that Nigeria offer them and jump to castigate the nation when things don't work according to their plan. What you guys have earned through the nation is enough for you to bury your colleague with a golden casket and not to be expecting father Christmas from NFA .

This has nothing to do with Nigeria,

If Peter Rufai still failed to plan for his old age after being in Europe for so many decades, how is that Nigeria's problem??

He has his already for saying all this thing the fact that our government need to do more to support x players even currently players
The only duty the government owes you as a player is to pay your match entitlement.
It's not their duty to cater for your old age.

They will soon insult him for saying the truth just like Kemi in Britain.
They will tell you how he is demarketing the country and data boys calling him an IPOB agent.
For saying which truth?
Is the government supposed to pay him a pension for playing for the country?
He was paid his entitlement when he played for the country, any other thing is a privilege.

Taribo should stop talking nonsense none of you play for Nigeria for free and you forget the opportunity it was created for you in outside Nigeria?

Don't be ingrate many of your mates were disappointed when you were narrowly picked to play for Nigeria.
What of those government gave state burial after they left government, where they not paid salaries? Later Presidents and Governors!

You talked like this because you don't seat and listen to NTA news at 9.O-clock, rather you seat at Bet9ja shop

It is a shame. If you speak the truth you will die if you don't you will die. I respect you for saying the truth to power @Taribo West.
And who told you they played for free. Infact it’s the other way around . Most of them should be grateful to Nigeria for giving them the opportunity which made them even richer than their own effort.

Whoever the government decided to help with anything is a privilege and not a right.

Name any country in the world ,where their government is responsible for the welfare of ex players?

They were paid and some of them received houses,so?

Our leaders don't even want to see the living citizens exist to avoid dragging national wealth with them. Is it the dead they will remember?

We need a different style of Education which school cannot teach but the family and the religious places

I will never advise my son to play for this country— Ex-Super Eagles Defender, Taribo West says as he Laments Neglect of Late Peter Rufai, Slams NFF and Lagos State at Funeral

Former Super Eagles defender, Taribo West, could not hold back his emotions on Friday as he spoke to journalists at the funeral of ex-Nigeria goalkeeper, Peter Rufai.

The ex-Inter Milan star, visibly shaken, expressed deep grief over the treatment meted out to Rufai after retirement, describing it as a sh@meful reflection of how Nigeria handles its football heroes.

“I share the p@ins and burdens with the Rufai family,” West said. “It is dishe@rtening that Lagos State and the Nigerian Football Federation dropped the buck on them.

This is not how a nation should treat those who gave everything on the field.”

Struggling to keep his emotions in check, West recounted how the news of Rufai’s de@th hit him harder than the loss of his own parents.

“When my mother passed, I didn’t shed tears. When my father d+ed in my hands, I didn’t cry.

But when Rufai d+ed, I had goosebumps and tears rolled down my cheeks. What kind of nation treats its heroes like this?”

The former defender accused football authorities of neglect, pointing to similar cases of late Nigerian stars Stephen Keshi, Rashidi Yekini, and Thompson Oliha, all of whom, he said, were abandoned in their final years.

“Imagine a family crying and begging among themselves just to raise money to bury a national hero.

That is m@dness,” West fumed. “With this kind of example, I would never advise my son to play for this country. Do we even have a football federation in this Nigeria?”

Taribo West ended his remarks by urging authorities to wake up to their responsibilities in honoring and supporting retired players who s@crificed for the country.

But these guys made some money na, why are some of them looking this way? Make Una forget all this talk of " I played/represented Nigeria, Nigeria suppose look after me" we all represent Nigeria in different ways... Civil Servant dey represent Nigeria, Teachers dey represent Nigeria, entrepreneurs dey represent Nigeria in their own ways...
Civil servants receive pensions and gratuities when they retire!

I support that our footballers should be taken care of when they retire. They should be receiving pension at least. These are men who used their youthful energy to play football for Nigeria. They should be treated like retired soldiers who also served the country with their youthful energy!

Kudos to you Taribo West for speaking the truth to power. This is why many Nigerians find it difficult to be patriotic to this nation

I was scrolling down and tried to look for who will counter what West said, and I wasn't disappointed. Your statement is the reason why Nigeria still have a very long way to go, unlike develop countries, who doesn't treat their heroes anyhow, infact former England players still recieve salary till now....

I don't know what happens to these people's finances when they are done playing football. It took the intervention of the Enugu state govt to give Christian Chukwu a befitting burial. Is it that they don't invest their money into some other businesses?

Ok I stand corrected. The sports ministry should have been represented. If that’s his issue. I confess I didn’t watch the video. However there are official protocols for these things. You just don’t bury someone and expect the govt to be there. Sometimes if you want official govt presence and recognition at your funeral, you have to officially notify the govt. don’t just assume that they heard of his death in the news. Former senate president Wayas died and his body was languishing in London for years, he was buried recently and given a befitting commendation service at the senate. But you know what? The senate president said they thought he had been buried all these years because no one from the family notified them of his burial or any difficulties they were having.

When I buried my dad, we were just going to bury him as a family thing, we didn’t know we had to officially inform his former office even though he had retired, he was their former head. They were the ones annoyed with the family for not informing them and We had to make an alteration to the burial schedule to accommodate them and they came with full representation all the way from Abuja to our village in the SW.

govt officials attending a funeral involves many things, they may want to be part of the programme, they may want to hpgive a speech, letter of commendation, possible gift to family, the petrol, the drivers allowance, the out of station allowances for official representatives, all these thing must be requested for and approved officially by someone in the minsyptry. If someone does not make the official request, nothing happens…that’s how govt works. So the question then is did the family give the sports ministry official notice of the funeral? When this story is finished I can guarantee you they didn’t inform the ministry.

If there is one thing I can guarantee about federal govt agencies, no matter how broke, it is sending representatives to funerals of dead high ranking officials from that agency. They don’t play trust me because they all know their own will come and it’s an opportunity for out of station allowances. So long as they are officially informed. Peter Rufai though not a direct ex employee was a national asset, if the family informed them they would have sent a delegation.
You said you didn't watch the video, so no need for further assumptions

He obviously said the truth. Sadly, people would come and criticize him for making such comment. But deepd own, they wouldn't allow their child to play for Nigeria either.

We saw how it went with the person that designed the national flag gan gan... If not lately that people started dragging the governments, them for no shake body. grin
Not that I am against what Taribo said.
But, sports people, especially footballers always complain about neglect by the government when they have financial issues after serving the nation, as if they are the only ones that served the nation.
Civil servants, police, military etc, and others who represented Nigeria in none sporting competitions like education contests, beauty pageants etc all served the nation, and their families don't even complain about neglect the way sports people do.

The allowances, bonuses and financial gratifications they got when they were playing , no public servant got near 10& of those, even with gratuity , pension and salaries for 35 years added together.

They just didn't manage their fame and finance well.
Ask Tijani Babngida; he will explain it better .

The only place I fault government is that they failed to make systems work. If financial institutions like insurance companies, fund managers, mortgage firms, banks, pension companies, hospitals, electricity firms etc have been effectively monitored, regulated , guided and guards by government, people won't be having such financial trauma after active service.

I didn’t watch idea because 1) there was already a long text account of the problem in which all I read was financial difficulties before he died. I reiterate that’s not the govt responsibility. 2) I don’t watch videos redirected from Nairaland to people looking for hits. If his problem was representation at the funeral, then I have explained how govt works!.
