johnmartus:You are the one talking nonsense. Yes, they served Nigeria and was paid, but they never cheated nor looted public fund, rather they used their strengths to represent Nigeria, hence, they deserve lifetime care, Not your corrupt, ill-looting public office-holders, that are only there to thief and punish the masses, then after retirement they are being treated with respect with maximum security details as if they are crucial to the nation. |

Rest in Peace Peter Rufai, but Why our rich professionals didn't help out in this regard. @ Taribo West ,players played for their country because of passion not because they want something in return, after all,you all have something doing aside representing Naija. ![]() |

They gave him an heroic burial when they placed the flag of Nigeria on his casket. This is why I like the Muslim, just bury the death same day, same place without coffin and party. If we have been practicing that, nobody will be asking the government to come and feed people in the name of burial. |

johnmartus:How do you reason for God sake? Is that a justifiable reason why Nigeria government will not honour their late heroes or tender help to them when they're in need?? Somebody is speaking 🔊 truth to power and you said he should stop talking nonsense. Most of the promises been made by govt during their time where not fulfilled, like match bonus, house and cash gift etc. Stephen keshi period suffered this issue. And after all this years of faithful service they'll not honour them but ignore them in their dying time of need. You really lack empathy o. And what do you mean when you said they played for Nigeria for free? |

johnmartus:God bless you my brother for saying what I have always been saying. My main annoyance is who told all these our sports men that they're serving Nigeria when they go on international competition. Nigeria pay for your travels to anywhere, lodge you in the best hotels, pay you daily and match allowances and you'll tell me they're serving us. Just drop any of this footballers or athletes complaining and see how embittered they'll be. What they don't know, many footballers and athletes are looking for the opportunity to play for Nigeria for free just to get that international exposure and market their godgiving talents, while the ones that gets the opportunity on a platter of gold will be saying thrash. If Rufai's family can't raise money to bury their own, whose fault. All the money he made during his playing times, who did he give? Abeg I hate what I don't like |

Now let me reiterate what I have been saying for long once more. Entitled Nigerian ex players and athletes, Nigeria, Govt and NFF doesn't owe you anything after retirement apart from national awards and their presence in whatever you're doing. That too is involuntarily. . I hate it when I hear most of this ex players claiming govt or NFF neglected them after serving the country. Which yeye country you serve? You serve the country pass teachers, soldiers, doctors, civil servant and co who most of them live earnings will or may never be up to your one year football or sports payment. People that are supposed to be thankful for Nigeria for giving them international exposure to horn their God giving talents. You travel with Nigeria teams to different countries abroad free of charge, lodge in the best hotels And paid daily and match allowances, and sometimes winning tournament bonuses and gifts from govt and corporate sponsors. An opportunity millions of Nigeria are looking for for free especially muah that's typing this. These players and athletes are the ones that even owe Nigerians a big thank you for where they're today. . NOW LET ME TELL YOU ALL STORIES THAT I EXPECT MOST WON'T BELIEVE ABOUT MOST OF THESE OUR ATHLETES COMPLAINING HERE THERE. Do you know most of these players and athletes charm and use voodoos on their fellow players just to get their position in the team. Now hear this about this same Rufai that's dead, may his soul rest in peace. . Peter Rufai is from a Royal family here in Lagos that are also fetish. During the qualifiers and run up to France 1998, Rufai was a spent force and wasn't call up again to the team. During that time, Ike Shorunmu, Dosu Joseph, Abiodun Baruwa were the go to guys for the eagles goalkeeping position. Uche Akubuike an home based goalkeeper was also invited for the camping. Peter Rufai as at this time was holidaying in Spain after the close of the season. Guess what guys? Dosu Joseph had an accident (where he too wanted to go and fortify himself). Ike Shorunmu broke his finger in a pre world cup friendly match, Baruwa made series of errors in a friendly match against Yugoslavia. Uche Akubuike got hammered 5 nil in a training match with a local club in Holland. NFF and the coach now run to go and beg Rufai from his holiday.............. T.B.C |

press9jatv:Was he playing for free? Was Nigeria not paying him? The name he made, was it not Nigeria that made it happen? Yes, I agree that the Nigerian government should have stepped in but it should only be by choice and not because of some "national hero" talks. Besides, what part did his teammate and all other ex-super eagles played in the funeral 🤔 |
| Re: Peter Rufai Burial: I Will Never Advise My Son To Play For This Country - Taribo by Kalulu44: 12:21am On Aug 23, 2025 |
CONTINUED! Peter Rufai who was holidaying in Spain was begged by NFF and Bora Militunovic to come and rescue the super eagles which he first of all "do shakara" before accepting the offer as if it wasn't his wish after all. Rumor had it that it was Rufai and his fetish dad who did the jazz for him for other players in his position to have those misfortunes. Uche Akubuike the home based goalkeeper was eventually drop and when he came back home, he narrated many things that happened in the camp and how he was seeing double and things during the 5-0 debacle in which he was involved. He said it that most players are fetish but refused to name names. . Now let me give you guys an eye witness gist. It was year 2005 and I was living in Benin City back then. There's an open field in my area where we used to go and play Sunday Sunday football. At the back of the field is a huge mansion owned by ex 3SC and Super Eagles player Ajibade Babalade. He sometimes comes around to watch us and even play with you. Aside that, he always gives us gist of his playing days. One of those gist centred on how players fortify and used voodoo to displace each other from team and position. . He gave us an example of when he was in 3SC of Ibadan. That there was one certain Friday, a day before a league match. The coach usually call them to psyche them up and also name the players that will play the match the next day. He said immediately coach listed the players of which he was among. Other players not listed came to shook them and wish them well. He said the player that both of them are fighting for the same position's handshake was different and lasted longer than usual. But he didn't read any meaning to it. . The next day of the match, while they were warming up before the match, he fell ill and it was serious. He has to tell the coach that he was feeling feverish and can't play the match. According to him, most of his teammates laugh and joked at him that it's a lie that he's just afraid to play the match. He told them he was dead serious. According to him, it was the same player that came and console him more than anybody. Eventually he was replaced by that same player and 10min into the match, he felt himself strong, fit and healthy. But he didn't know how to tell the coach. He told some of his teammates and they were just laughing hysterically. According to him, it was days later that he too went to find out that he was told what happened. He also said, sometimes they'll lodge in a hotel that has quality bathing soaps but you will see some players bathing with their own soaps of different colors from black to red and all sorts. . Now let me go back to Dosu Joseph's story. According to insider in their camp, when Dosu noticed he's no longer a first choice for the super Eagles (he was displace then by Abiodun Baruwa). Very early morning, he left camp and told his roommate he wants to travel to Badagry (Then they were lodge in Sheraton hotel Ikeja) his hometown for an urgent something and will be back before day breaks. His roommate suspected what he wanted to go and do cus he has been stylishly saying it. Dosu eventually had an accident by 1am while driving fast to meet up and didn't see herdsmen of cows crossing. He broke his spinal cord in the process that eventually landed him in wheelchair. . During Kanu era in super eagles, if most of you who watch them then noticed. Kanu can never come back to Nigeria for Super Eagles assignment without first visiting his home town in Abia state. He especially did this most times when super eagles fans are calling for his exclusion from the team. And once he comes back from his home town visit boom, he will be the hero of the team in the next game. . Another eye witness account, when Obafemi Martins was still hot both in eagles and his club. I used to hear rumor of him having one native doctor who lives in Iyana Era of Ojo/Oto Awori local govt of Lagos. Even a friend of mine who lives there corroborated the story and even told me he once bought an SUV for the native doctor until one day me and my guys caught him one day by 11pm going towards that Iyana Era. I was living in Ojo town just close to the local govt secretariat. My guys I was talking about were among the indigenes who collects money from Container drivers who are going to Alaba Int'l market. So that night I wanted to stay with them and at least get some change from the money they'll make, and also it was announced that Oro masquerade will come out that night. . So around 11pm we saw a flashy car approaching, he would have sped off but the bump in front of the local govt slow him down and so guys moved to where he was and was asking where he was going. When the driver wound down his glass, immediately one of us shouted eh! Na Obafemi Martins. He just hushed us, dragged out a bundle of #200 notes and gave us and then went his wail while some where hailing him. One of my guys said same thing I have been hearing "Oti Fe lo ba babalawo e' ni Iyana Era" Meaning he wants to go see his native doctor in Iyana Era. So what am I trying to point out here guys, all these our ex athletes complaining here and there of govt neglect can do anything just to get into the various national teams and most times bribes coaches and some NFF chieftain. . So why are they doing all these if truly as they always say they're going into the various teams to serve Nigeria, if not that as we all know they're trying to sell themselves outside. As for Taribo West complaining, if you like tell your son to play for Naija or not, e no concern anybody. Don't forget Nigeria and super eagles made you what you're today. For Peter Rufai, may his soul continue to rest in peace but if his family truly said they didn't have money for his burial, they don't have anyone to blame but themselves or their late partriarch. Where is all the money he made while active? |

Bigchris01:Did the players serve Nigeria (that's if you really believe they serve) more than Doctors, Teachers, Soldiers, Police, Health care workers and civil servants. Most of these people I mentioned can't make the money these players make a year in 10 or 20yrs time and yet they'll be lamenting. . Super Eagles players match bonus per match is $10k, that's about #15m. How many of those people I mentioned can earn that in 5yrs. |

GenFunction:The only thing I see bad there is if no NFF member went or represented. But I can bet anything I have that one or two NFF member will be there. Taribo's lamenting is just maybe they didn't give the family money or something which neither the NFF nor govt owe him. Infact the family needs to thank Nigeria and Super Eagles for making him popular and a legend till after life |

I'm disappointed in Taribo for this outburst! For crying out loud, these people rendered paid services as consultants to Nigeria. They were not based here, neither were they permanent employees of Nigeria as a country. They were foreign based players earning heavily and always in their different clubs, only coming around on invitation during tournaments and and I'm sure they would have declined if they were told they were coming to play for free. Why was Taribo west not calling out or blasting the clubs he played for? He retired from professional football in year 2000 and even declined an offer to serve as coach for Nigerian goalkeepers (for which he would also be paid). when he fell sick more than twenty years later, Nigeria should cater to him! Was Taribo listening to himself when he was talking at all? If he asks his son to not play for Nigeria, it's his loss because the remuneration has even drastically upgraded. You people earn heavily as professionals. If you misuse your earnings and fail to invest wisely and save for the rainy day, how does that concern the government. Someone like him shouldn't be facing such challenges. When they're doing very well and we say, help people, build people, they would say "no, people won't appreciate, they're not from the same tribe, " even his own friends/families!!! If he had built and helped some people/friends come out of poverty, those people he helped would have come through for him in his dying days!! This is a wake up call to everyone doing well financially and professionally. All of us are going to grow old and we will always need people. Only those you lift up will remember you. If you fail to lift others, when the time comes, you'll be so sorry. Peace! |

Honestly eh! This Taribo West lamentation has itched me so much that I can't stop talking about it. How I wish I can be face to face with him now and tell him some home truth. Taribo West and co, make una hear am loud and clear. If no be Nigeria wey select una for competition abroad, nobody for know una today. Most of una for no be anybody today. . Taribo, na Julius Berger you dey play for Naija with peanuts when dem select you go play under 20 nations cup for Mauritius in 1993. I rmbr how e pain you say you miss out on going to Tunisia 94 nations cup and US 94 world cup while dem pick some of your teammates wey include Okocha. Bcus of how you play well for Mauritius, Auxerre for France buy you from Julius Berger. From there you go Inter Milan, go AC Milan and the rest is history. Now tell me Taribo, if to say Naija no take you go that tournament shey Auxerre for see you. Ok, make I say you for fit make by luck without Naija but we all know say the chances of that happening na 1/10. Bcus I believe you sef know say many of your teammates for Julius Berger then no see road go abroad till today. . So Taribo West, honestly speaking. Na you and your teammates wey make am abroad owe Nigerians and NFF a big thank you for the opportunity giving to una. NFF and Nigeria no owe una anything. I believe say people wey dey support Taribo and the likes dey read wetin I dey yarn. . And make I ask most people wey dey agree with Taribo's assertion this. If whatever you dey do now. Be it banker, driver, Mechanic, Tailor, Doctor, Engineer e.t.c. Dem say the competition for who is the best in that hand work dey shele for US and each countries are to be represented. Then Nigeria pick you to go represent us for your own field, shey you no go, go for free. Make una talk true o, know fully well say if you win na international recognition and work don come for you. Talkless of say dem come pay you allowance join, shey una come here come dey cry say Naija forget you after you don use the competition get better work for abroad. Make una think am nah, think. . The other time na former Super Falcons player Patience Avre dey lament after the $100k the present falcons received, say dem sef deserve am for their time. The one wey pain me pass for her matter be say na from USA she from dey yarn this yarn. The USA wey be say if care is not taking you for no dey there now. Na Ufuoma babes of Warri Patience dey for Nigeria dey play with little or no salary before Nigeria pick her for Falcons to go represent us for US 99 women world cup, na from there she blow and clubs for US come pick her and she play for there till she retire come still collect citizen wey make her remain there. Majority of her teammates then like Nkiru Okosieme, Mercy Akide, Kikelomo Ajayi, Florence Omagbemi, Yinka Kudaisi and many wey I no fit rmbr based for US now and live good life all bcus of Naija and Falcons. . Patient even say na only #300k dem receive then for winning the 1998 and 2000 women African nations cup. Eh! Patience, you know how much #300k worth back then? Infact make all these players and athletes stop to dey vex me. How I wish dem know say millions of Nigeria dey wey better pass dem for that thing we dem think say na dem sabi pass but na grace and luck favour dem above others wey even ready to play for free. . Lastly! All this things wey I dey yarn, no be say bcus I be politician, govt person or even get any relatives near govt corridor. Infact me sef know say govt own dey their body, but somebody gatz to tell the truth to dis our entitled athletes. End of Story. . If you enjoy my yarnings, hook me up on my email to help you write better stories, yarnings and anything weda for pidgin or pure English, I dey available, thanks. |
