Anambra Community Raises $100,000 to Renovate Teaching Hospital A United States of America, USA, – based medical practitioner and the Traditional Prime Minister of Abagana in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze has said that Igbo people in the diaspora remit more than $60 billion to Nigeria every year. Anakwenze, who is the leader of Igbo people across the globe and runs a chain of hospitals that employs over 5,000 professionals in the USA, told journalists in Awka that the amount made great positive impact in the economy of the South East region He added, however, that the main concern of Nigerians residing abroad is enthronement of the right leadership to make the country to take its rightful place among the comity of nations. According to him, the people in the diaspora have been contributing significantly to the development of their communities and are prepared to do more, provided the right atmosphere is created. He said, for instance, that his people in the USA have raised substantial amount to renovate the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, outpost in his community to improve healthcare services in the area. “We are raising the funds from individual Abagana people and as a group. We already have over $100,000, which was raised last month. We’re also going to approach our people in other parts of the world to do the same. Whatever the government can do is good, but we want to help ourselves as a community,” he added. “We have a lot of educated people and those in business who have a lot of money and they are prepared to support the development of their towns. All they need is to see that we are serious and the money will flow. “The UNTH outpost has been abandoned and we want to make it big. It’s a federal government institution, but it’s been abandoned.”He argued that Nigeria could do much better than it is doing at the moment, lamenting that the problem is that the people running the governments are below average and that is why they are failing the people. He stated: “Nigeria should be aiming to be a world power but we can’t achieve that with the kind of people ruling her. God gave us everything and we can’t manage them, which is very unfortunate. If we have people with brains, Nigeria will be a world power. At the moment, Nigeria is carrying last which is bad. We have to start producing, not sitting and consuming. “It’s shameful that we are still importing almost everything and as long as we continue to do that, our naira will continue to be nothing.” Anakwenze described the Igbo as very important towards fast development of Nigeria and called for their proper inclusion in the affairs of country “Unless Nigeria realizes the value of the Igbos, they will continue to carry last. We have the brain to match the Chinese and the Japanese in manufacturing. The things we manufacture in Aba and Onitsha and Nnewi are what can make the country grow, not sharing money and occupying government positions and giving jobs to family members who are not even qualified to hold such jobs”, he stated. https://anambrapeople.com.ng/2025/08/23/anambra-community-raises-100000-to-renovate-teaching-hospital/

Abagana is just a town in Anambra and like must towns in Eastern Nigeria, self help is a normal thing. While others struggle so much to get the federal govt projects and are over dependent on govt. It is culturally engrained in ndigbo to be independent....I just hope the tribalistic federal govt will not put a cog in the wheel of this great development since the man did not sing their praises. We move on! |

Tinubu and his agbado followers should understand that we igbos don't depend on them for anything. We are egalitarians, we support ourselves and we help our communities. |

I pity my abroad brothers still sending money back to Nigeria. Sorry is your name. Most of you suffer to send money home to a country hijacked by criminals. ![]() I have been advising my brothers all over the world to stop. Please stop. Send money to sustain your families and relatives but all these capital projects should stop. Open your eyes nwanne. It is waste of money. You are working for criminals that hijacked Nigeria. If as an Igbo man you invested money in real estate in Nigeria, what is the value of those buildings now? The 100,000 dollars invested in Nigeria 10 years ago is now worth 8,000 dollars in today's Nigeria. The problem is one thing: LEADERSHIP. Nigeria has no leadership to transform your 100,000 dollars to 200,000 dollars at least. Look at South Africa. They are growing from Strength to Strength. But Nigeria is collapsing. I PITY THOSE OF YOU WHO WON'T LISTEN. Continue investing inugo? |

Igbos in diaspora are doing well. I commed them. Most of the money sent to Nigeria by Nigerians living in diaspora are Igbos. Igbos in diaspora plays a huge role in South East development most especially in Human development index. Also including urban - rural, housing and infrastructure development. Their philanthropist activities also helps a lot. Big kudos to them. |

esnbrutality:Your first and second paragraph sum it all. Ronu people has abandon their villages and Town to be claiming lagosians. I didn't add cities because they don't have any cities in their region. Those brown roof slums that littered everywhere in the South West can't be called cities. I went to ogun state 4 months ago. No signs of good governance anyway! Both at the state and local government level. Bad roads and infrastructure everywhere! Abeokuta the capital is looking terrible and backward. Despite ogun proximity to lagos, yet the state lagging behind Terribly! Their governor doing nothing. Yet, the people of Ogun state has abandon their state to be claiming lagosians. Very shameful! The same with other SW states. Their governors are doing absolutely nothing. |
