NNPC Inaugurates 113km Section Of OB3 Gas Pipeline Project by Pakute(op): 3:54pm On Aug 23, 2025
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited says the 113 kilometres (km) portion of the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) gas pipeline project has been inaugurated.

In its latest ‘Monthly Report Summary’ for July 2025, the national oil firm said the pipeline is currently transporting around 300 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d).

“[The] 113km portion of OB3 Gas Pipeline has been commissioned and is flowing about 300mmscf/d of gas from two gas producers,” the oil company said.

NNPC said the gas was sourced from Ashtavinayak Hydrocarbon Ltd (250 mmscf/d) and Platform, Chorus, and Xenergi Group (50 mmscf/d).

In the past, government officials had set dates for completion of the project — but it had missed deadlines.

In February 2024, Ekperikpe Ekpo, minister of state for petroleum resources (gas), said the OB3 gas pipeline will be completed in March 2024.

Similarly, in June 2024, Mele Kyari, former group chief executive officer (GCEO) of NNPC, announced that the gas pipeline project would be completed by August.

ADDITIONAL SUBCONTRACTORS DEPLOYED TO FAST RACK AKK GAS PIPELINE PROJECT

NNPC said additional subcontractors have been deployed to expedite completion of mainline works on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline and fast-track completion of the project.

“Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline: Additional subcontractors deployed to expedite completion of mainline works and fast-track project completion,” the report reads.

On June 26, Oilserv Limited, the project contractor, said the $2.8 million AKK gas pipeline project had crossed the River Niger after years of setbacks due to its “difficult terrain”.

Four days later, Oilserv said the pipeline is expected to achieve its mechanical completion by the end of 2025.

In July, Bayo Ojulari, the group CEO of the NNPC, said the $2.8 billion AKK gas pipeline project will revive industries in northern Nigeria.

What is in Kano that they are taking a pipeline there for? There is sun and wind energy in Kano. Use the gas in South to power industries right in the south.

They are trying to open up the north. So that industries can spring up.

You know the gas will be used to generate electricity.

is anything closing the north? They have huge allocation that in 6 months can build renewables to power any industry they desire. Is it agriculture that gas will power or religion?
Diesel powers agric largely. Even renewable is far more economical for them. The idea of equal north and south is being used to rob the south here.

The trans-saharan gas pipeline isn’t actually going through Morroco. It will go through Niger republic and Algeria then onwards to possibly Europe.

However, the one going to Morocco is a completely different pipeline called the Nigeria Morroco gas pipeline NMGP that will go through the west African coast, passing through several west African countries, delivering gas to them and terminate in Morroco for possible extension to Spain. The AKK will be part of the trans saharan gas pipeline when fully completed but is not part of the Nigeria-Morroco gas pipeline project NGMP.

I thought they said north is irrelevant that only Agbado votes will do it for tinubu? They have started begging for 2027 northern votes already with a project based on lies and propaganda that will never benefit the average northerner except the ones that facilitated this deal. Tinubu have legalized corruption in Nigeria

That’s quite confusing.

Will not be part of. Will be part of
- AKK is part of trans-saharan gas pipeline.

- Trans saharan gas pipeline will go through Niger and stop in Algeria.

- Nigeria-Morroco gas pipeline NGMP is a completely different project.

- Nigeria-Morroco gas pipeline will pass through west African coast, from Lagos to Morroco.

- Therefore, AKK is not part of Nigeria-Morroco gas pipeline.

What is confusing about this explanation?
