Greetings, I just got my COE form from the school. My question is how do I apply for the visa?
Do I just go to the embassy with my passport and the COE form.
Honestly I am tired of filling Japanese forms. The form filling is just too much.

Thank you

You better get used to it. They LOVE physical forms and they are too slow in administering their daily duties. They are methodical, but way too slow.

Please read about filling the form on the embassy website. An example is provided. Please use the Internet. Every information you need is there.

There is no tip. You do as instructed. You choose the dates available. You're not the only applicant, remember.

BTW, why not ask the visa centre itself?

Ok thank you for the response. Pls I have another question: is it a non appearance visa because all I saw from the site I visited is they asked to only book appointment with jvas not Japanese embassy itself.
Thank you

What's a "non appearance visa"?

Ever since the introduction of JVAS, I don't know how the visa issuance process works anymore.

Please, I need your candid opinion. Since my program is for six months with an option to continue for a master's degree, should I book a one-way ticket or a round-trip ticket? Could you also kindly ask other research students you know who are already there for their advice or what kind of ticket they booked? cc blackbriar

One way ticket.
Nothing to ask.
Just make sure your flight goes through a transport hub like Malayaisa, Singapore, Qatar or Dubai and france (not to sure on this one)
No body will ask to see your visa in these countries for your coneecting flights until you land in Japan
Don't use flight that requires you to go throught the immigartion of another country.

My advice to you is draw a paln, what would you be doing daily.
Morning - Japanese classes offered by univeristy?
Lunch break - Play sports at school gym (please do this, this is the best networking opoortunity in the university, Engage in any sport you like, you will make the most helpful friends here, and professors form all departments will play these sports with you, you can speak with them freely for help)
Afternoon - Tasks from Professor and Research Work
Evening - go hustle ?

Go to international dpeartment and get all the forms for masters and familairiase yourself with it.
Upon getting your admision letter for masters Program [ some few weeks to the end of your 6 months], The university does also help to apply for your student visa or you can go yourself to the nearest immigration office (which is usually the local airports).

Round trip ticket lol

Oga familiriase your with the visa the countries offer.

My humble 2 cents

Thank you very much, your guidance have really been helpful. Your suggested daily plan is well noted.

At the bold, I asked because I have watched different YouTube videos on how to book a flight itinerary without paying for visa application and also how to book a flight when visa is issued. The YouTubers often mention that if your stay is less than 1 year, You should book round trip ticket. Nevertheless, thanks for the clarification. I appreciate 🙏

One way ticket. Do you intend to return to Nigeria afterwards? Do you plan to fail the admission process into a master's program?.

There are agencies and services that can book to and fro for a fee just for the purpose of visa application. Your actual ticket should be one-way.

Good afternoon sir, i want to pursue my master's in Japan. I'm confused about where to start.

- Will 10 million Naira cover half of tuition,
accommodation for a master's?

- Can part-time work help pay remaining tuition while i study?

- How does the MEXT scholarship work?

I don't know where to start from, please help a brother.

Hello,

Is Gaba Corporation too bad for a Nigerian wishing to come over to Japan for an English Language Instructor job?. I learnt it's an Eikawa.

The testimonials I read about them on Glassdoor and Reddit are not so savoury.

I've advised on a previous Japanese migration thread to read such reviews, which are mostly by Westerners aka White people, but never take them to heart as a Black African. So while those reviews are useful, they don't really apply to a Black African who is hell bent on getting a work visa. See it as a step, when here, change companies (nothing wrong with this as the work visa is yours and independent of the current company you work with).

I saw Malaysia and Singapore in Blackbiar reply. Choose somewhere in the Middle East to transit. Anywhere outside would be way expensive and require two stops, most likely in Southeast Asia. I would never recommend transiting in that region with a Nigerian passport.

Nigeria > Qatar > Japan. One stop o. Two stops and problems begin to arise.

Thank you very much.
Is there any one on this thread who has worked with them?
I would love to know how they met up with the bookings and lessons, since clients have the liberty of booking their preferred instructors on the website, and they may always prefer to book the whites instead.

Greetings to you too....
My statement of account was requested at the stage of CoE application from my school's Immigration Department. Statement of Account MUST be equal to or exceed their quoted living cost * duration of your stay. Once filled amongst other things and submitted, it will undergo internal review. If there's any error or discrepancy, they'll inform you to update, else the form will be sent to the Regional Immigration Bureau.

You did not mention the cities you planned to visit, the hotel category you plan to lodge in, the places in those cities you want to visit, your entire itinerary etc.

These are the issues.

Nothing else. Touring a country especially for the first time is at the discretion of the tourist. Just follow the basic travel tips and have Google translate.

Generally, the Japanese embassy/consulate is very strict about complete and accurate documentation. What you submit should match their official requirements exactly — no more, no less. But you can make your application stronger by paying attention to details. Here are some tips:

---

✅ Key Documents (Standard Requirements)

Visa application form (filled correctly, signed, no blanks if possible).

Valid passport (with at least 6 months validity and blank pages).

Recent passport photograph (strict size & background rules).

Daily travel itinerary (Taizai Yoteihyo) – clear and realistic.

Flight booking (round trip) – usually reservation, not paid ticket.

Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter if staying with someone).

Bank statement (last 3–6 months) – to prove financial capacity.

Proof of employment/student status – employment letter, leave approval, or student letter.

If sponsored: sponsor’s bank statement, employment details, relationship proof.

✨ Extra Touches That Strengthen Your Application

1. Well-structured itinerary – Make it look realistic (don’t cram too many cities in short days).

2. Cover letter – Not always required, but writing a short polite letter explaining your purpose (e.g., tourism, experiencing Japanese culture, visiting specific attractions) shows seriousness.

3. Financial sufficiency – Ensure your bank statement reflects consistent income/savings (avoid sudden large deposits).

4. Strong ties to home country – Include supporting documents (employment letter with return date, family documents, school enrollment, property ownership, etc.) to show you’ll return.

5. Neat, consistent documents – Dates, names, spellings must all match (passport vs. bookings vs. forms).

TICAD( and Kisarazu

https://statehouse.gov.ng/news/japan-designates-city-of-kisarazu-as-hometown-for-nigerians/

The government of Japan on Thursday named the city of Kisarazu as the hometown for Nigerians willing to live and work in the country as part of its strategic efforts to deepen cultural diplomacy, promote economic growth and enhance workforce productivity.

Under this new partnership, announced on the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference for African Development, the Japanese government will create a special visa category for highly skilled, innovative, and talented young Nigerians who want to move to Kisarazu to live and work.

Artisans and other blue-collar workers from Nigeria who are ready to upskill will also benefit from the special dispensation visa to work in Japan.
