However, Oyo grew to be an Empire while Ife remained a kingdom, under the control and protection of Oyo!
When Oyo was an empire, all Yoruba land was under her control and protection. Ife was recognized as the throne of Oduduwa, but Oyo later grew to be more important and more influential

Now to the issue of falling from sky. Oduduwa lived in the mountain terrain of Ife which is Oke-Ora (Ora Hill), Google it. That's why some said he fell from the sky. The Arabian or Egyptian tale is just a buttress to origin of blacks from Mesopotamia (Ham's father who's Noah) and migration of his descendants to Egypt, Nubia, Meroe, Waddai, Ethiopia etc which are the first black settlements. They visited the Ooni in Ife and recited their version of history of how Benin kingdom came about, correcting themselves and aligning that Ooni is their father and Ile-Ife their home.

I don’t think so, presently the protocol is that Oba of Benin is ranked higher than the Aalafin traditionally.

Maybe because Oranmiyan founded Benin before Oyo.

After Ooni and Sultan who are the permanent co chairmen of Traditional ruler council of Nigeria the next is Oba of Benin. Though I stand to be corrected.
