The NPF need training and retraining, continuously.

DPOs should be mandated to train officers in two batches on Tuesdays and Thursdays by 8am.

Case studies of this issue and other trending issues affecting the police negatively should be discussed.

If not, there will always be a repeat.

Police are not always happy, especially when they see a successful person.
You are talking like you don't know the real cause of the Nigerian police misconduct. It is not lack of training or awareness, it is the intention to harass and extort. These police have been told that citizens have right to record their conduct but their determination to extort citizens will never let them agree. So, no amount of training can stop their misconduct but punishments

My concern is the police are still bold enough to violate human rights with all the technology available to expose them.

Even with the guy smart glasses the policeman still dey slap am join.
Because those in leadership operate with impunity, so it's only normal for thier subordinates to behave likewise.

The criminal left his job and was battling for camera. But still, there are very good police out there. Mini Okoro police officers in port Harcourt are one set of good police teams out there. Until recently, I didn't believe that a Nigerian can walk into a police station, lodge a complain and Nigerian police will respond swiftly, get justice for the complainant and the complainant walk home yet without paying a dime. Once again I said kudos to you guys.

Because they know the only punishment they'll get will be only media trial and change of area of operation...

Leave "black men" out of your sordid outbursts. Agreed; The Nigerian Police is corrupt! But that is not because they're made up of black men. There are Asian Police forces that are corrupt and South American Police men that are corrupt too. It has little.to.do with the colour of the skin, but all to do with recruitment policies, compensation policies, training policies and the prevalent cultural trends in particular areas. Simple! Train and pay the Police officer nicely and corruption will go down. Use good standards devoid of nepotism to recruit men into the force while punishing bad officers and good behaviour will rise.
It is that simple. You're the one making it look so complicated

That's what happens when politicians convert political thugs who were cultists and agberos into policemen.

Police must start wearing body cams and also mental evaluation must be carried out on all officers.
Thank you.

I have said it here numerous times, and even presented proposals on this to the relevant authorities, including the use of surveillance drones in red zones.

Security agencies must enforce the use of body cams for officers on operation. Even insides of security offices/stations should have CCTVs.

The only way to significantly reduce harassment by security officers on duty is to put in place measures that promote accountability.

But as long as those are the top are not affected by the harassment, they do not see the sanitisation of the security architecture as a priority.

Nearly all formations have lectures at 8am on Tuesdays led by the DPOs and DCOs. I have actually witnessed one held at a SARS division when Gyogon Grimah was in charge then.

The issue is that most of what their superiors educate them on enters one ear and leaves the next. Really, can a DPO be everywhere to monitor what his or her boys are doing on the streets?

Always report police men that goes against the rules of engagement. The job of the police is to serve the legitimate citizens, go after crime and criminality, nip crime in the bud by investigation and undercover work and stop a crime in progress, not to harrass innocent legitimate tax payers.

Same mini okoro police that hit a comedian on the head and left to die on the road while they made away with his car.

Please say something else.

Policemen should be wearing body cameras to back every arrest with evidence but they refused. Now, the people are wearing cameras to defend their arrests and they feel threatened.

Shame on the police.

I think if our politicians and rulers stop to embezzle and siphon money officially, then the policemen will have no other choice than to stop collecting bribe. Because then there will be political will on the part of the rulers to match action with words.

# say no to all forms of corruption.

So this commissioner olo jimoh doesn't know that the Nigerian police are rotten to the core?
So he doesn't know that no unit is better than the other?
The evil of the Nigerian police is glaring for the eyes to see.
The evil they subjects motorists on daily basis is beyond what you think.
Re: Police Detain Officers That Harassed A Motorist For Wearing Smart Glasses by lumay2: 1:23pm On Aug 24, 2025
Please when can a citizen sue a policeman for an abuse.
The issue with the Nigerian police and young people is becoming intolerable. If Nigerian youths wear cloth they will be arrested at police checkpoint, if the use iPhone they will be arrested ,if the ride bike or car even Uber they will be arrested. Now, youths are being harassed for wearing eyewear.
I appreciate the action of the police command that took steps to be punitive on the erring officers.
I sincerely submit that the punitive actions usually taken be the police force on the erring officers for misconduct are probably not deterrent enough for the "class" of the misconduct.

Treating the symptom instead of the disease will never get is us anywhere. The foundation of this society is based on injustice, impunity and nepotism. You don't expect to build a lawful society out of such a system.
Wearing body cameras will not achieve any meaningful check, believe me. What we need is a radical change in our thinking as a people. that's all

Some smart eye glasses have cameras that allow the wearer to discreetly record videos. Some policemen that abuse their powers have been exposed by smart glasses wearers who recorded videos of them committing illegal acts.

In this video the policeman tried to snatch the motorist's glasses when he realised that he was being recorded.

Photo 1) Some smart glasses contain cameras that enable the wearer to record videos of what they are seeing. In this example the camera lens is on the nose bridge of the glasses.

You are right. Most of the rank and file policemen on the road give returns to their DPOs and sometimes their Commissioners. The day the police highest authority extends the sanctions to the senior officers, that is when I will agree that they are working towards curbing corruption in the Nigeria Police Force.
