99% of Nigerians including politicians and salary earners have 0% financial literacy. This is why they don't know what to do with a windfall and resort to borrowing immediately after a windfall. The desire to live larger than life is one resounding reason for their financial recklessness. The 1% that have financial literacy can be found amongst the illiterate market traders |

He added that players should also pray for the right support system, stressing the importance of good people and a reliable partner after their careers end. This is another problem being faced by the ex footballers. Some of them are very interested in investing but so unfortunate investing in bad business or bad people/partner who are only interested in scamming them and taking their hard earned money. Many of these footballers didn’t have the opportunity to go beyond secondary school education. I would suggest that African football players should endeavour to take some courses on financial investment so as to have the understanding. |

Our greatest problem is that majority of us lack financial discipline and proper planning towards the future. An average European players are already planning towards their retirement ten years ahead. Some will join the coaching crew and start taking courses in coaching. While some will start investing in a football club while some will start a football academy, training future players which he will later be their agent in the future. Footballers or not, everyone must have a retirement plan in whatever field we found ourselves. The biggest investment in life in human investment. Many of our football players during their time couldn't point a single footballer they mentor, sponsor to attain greater height. Our musicians are doing so, helping upcoming artists and by doing that they remain in the industry and still have boys they're making money from. |

He is making some points. The problem is the entitlement that most of them have as if they weren't paid doing their playing days. If they should be pampered, then all retired civil servants should be taken care of too. |

Kewtt:After supporting the motion vehemently... You turn around to make that statement about okocha. You want him to end up like the people you are canvassing for to be jailed that can't afford their own burial? Okocha owes nobody absolutely nothing as a private citizen. Na all of them play ball! |

Peter rufia has a football academy... I don't know if taribo was being overly dramatic or entitled. But these people have no business depending on aid to organize their funeral after demise because they should have lived at least a decent and comfortable life with what they were exposed to. They are people without half the opportunities these guys had that are doing well... even if not rich but comfortable. Imagine if I have just 10% of the fame, popularity, exposure (not even talking of the amounts he received during his career for now o) someone like rufia has/had then still solicit funds for my funeral. I agree not only should I be jailed, but I should be sho. T dead again after dying. Like I said maybe na taribo just dey over play the matter for his own reasons. Everything falls back to planning and going easy on the extravagant lifestyle. (Rufia has never struck me as extravagant though) saving something decent especially when you know and understand the kind of country and football FA you have. Why can you depend on them? |

Amotolongbo:If they can't have business sense or what you stated then they should invest in building of houses for tenancy purposes. Can they buy land and build mini estates. Most of them live very flamboyant life and think they will continue like that. Omokachi bought chopper around 90s and he became brook cos he didn't envisage of a knee injury that will later terminate his career. If not for NFF and later buhari who appointed him special advicer, na sorry case he matter for be. He now live a modest life. Imagine he went to Abuja and buy some lands in high brow area then and develop them with block of flats. He can afford to buy land in Asokoro back then and build a mini estate. |

brain54:which player had gone to play abroad with his academy. That suppose to be his second hustle. Do you think it easy to run a successful one. Did he have the money to frequently send his players for trials abroad when you are the one marketing them. Most of this guys wasted thier money recklessly. |
| Re: Broke Retired Players Should Be Jailed – Ideye by brain54(m): 11:27am On Aug 24, 2025 |
kedeojo:So you are saying no player from his academy went to play abroad...? You know that for sure? It's an investment he had whether primary or secondary, and I would expect if it wasn't yeilding profit he should have closed it down. The international market isn't the only market target for academies by the way. Even if his target was local clubs he should still have been making something decent! |

He said everything right apart from PRAYING for the right support system. What does he mean people should pray for right support system. This is like praying for a good wife or husband. Whoever you end up with as support system, wife or husband is your choice. Open your eyes and mind so you can see who is the right support system, wife or husband. And if you see any kind of flag that is not green, chase them outof your life immediately |

It’s a general mentality of the Black man across the world. Give a black man a million dollars, and his first priorities will be, building a solid mansion, buying 3 luxurious cars, and changing his wardrobes with luxurious fashion wears and jewelry’s. They try to tell you how industrious they are when they are still poor, give them that money and you will be amazed how fast they can squander. |

Omojuwa has summarized this in one of his articles “ I know rational arguments can hurt the soul when they clash with your emotions and biases. Sorry about that, but you are responsible for your own soul.” |

Kanu is the wisest guy i know. Someone should advise Osimeh. Even though he had that money to acquire the car he bought recently, he ought to have invested first. He should ask those who earned better than him but ended up poor in retirement. Na wetin you take money do, be the value of that money .Unfortunately, they don't learn from others and same goes for our young artistes and if you tell them, they'd say it's because the poor ones weren't smart. Records are being broken every day and today's star becomes stale very fast. Time runs out, just like movies. I watched on tiktok hours ago where the inventor of gehgeh university of learning was celebrating thousands of dollar gifts and the whopping number of views in hundreds of thousands,.more than what peller celebrated in a few hours...peller don dey go stale be dat so, time waits for nobody. Ighalo and Taiye Taiwo share 2nd position. They are big time investors in property in dubai. I may not know much of ighalo's investment there but I know of at least, one of taiye's property there, a good and busy hotel to be precise,.managed by Marriot. |

These guys have such a great privilege to represent the country and other than that play for football clubs all their career and all that. There are millions seeking for this same opportunity you know but then after retirement I wonder what they do. Drinkwater a former EPL winner is now a construction worker in UK. It was also said that almost all the squads Iceland brought to the World Cup some years back were just part time footballers. 😂😂😂 The goalkeeper was said to be a videographer and many of them with their daily jobs. But what happen to our own brothers here though. |

Nice one We should start with Taribo l don't understand how someone who played at the very high level, represented teams like AC Milan, inter, Derby etc will retire and be following Tinubu upandan during campaigns begging for alms I heard he even opened a church and calls himself a pastor now... Is that how to give back to society? Go and see what Musa is doing investing for his future and the youths These wayward men useless their lives in their haydays, partying, clubbing and womanizing.. Go to Adesanya and see Etim Esin. |

The truth is many players don't have the education or maturity for the kind of revenue they get They need guidance and protection. Unfortunately at that age young men think they are immortal and omniscient |
