In a twist of events in the long standing power tussle in the Benue State APC, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh has resigned.

In a handwritten letter dated 24th August 2025 and addressed to the clerk of the house, the speaker stated that his resignation was "done in good faith and in the best interest of the state."

Recall that there has been an ongoing power tussle between the incumbent governor of the state, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia and a former governor, now Secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, over the control of the state APC structure.

The governor and his erstwhile political benefactor reportedly made peace to the celebration of supporters.

However, those close to both politicians allege that the power tussle is far from over, as the governor recently dissolved his entire cabinet and is in the process of constituting a new one, allegedly devoid of inputs and nominations/imposition by the SGF.
The speaker's resignation comes amid rumours that he was being pressured to resign his position as part of a larger power realignment arrangement.
However, some sources within the government house mentioned that the rejection of a commissioner nominee who was reportedly nominated by a powerful kingmaker in the state may be the final straw that broke the camel's back.
The commissioner nominee, a lecture in the state university's law department, is allegedly notorious for victimizing students for no just reason.
This led to series of petitions against him by former students, some of who couldn't graduate for offences as little as misspelling the lecturer's name.

That's not how politics and governance works.

You need a loyal team that follows your lead and accountable to you.

The least developed state in Nigeria is Benue State, instead of the leaders to focus on developmental projects and programs they are busy fighting for supremacy.

The letter has the typical red signature but no stamp/seal of office.

This isn't the first time we are getting redacted letters this year.
I won't be surprised if tomorrow, the coast clears, and he denies the letter.

say what you know, that man is doing his best in that state and one of his problem is the SGF and some aggrieved politicians who believed that the governor should continue with the pattern of leadership that has been going on in the state " share the state resources among the elites"...90 percent of rich men in the state are politicians

I remember ABBA Khari or something. Buhari’s former chief of staff that Covid killed was very powerful.

You can never work under Tinubu when he is active in a post and expect to be powerful. Chief of staff office to the president is powerful, it depends on who wills it.

it is either you are not from the state and do not understand what is going on in the state but if you are from the state, then you must be one of those people who are used to hailing politicians who loots the state's resources for crumbs.

Alia only sin is, the state's resources should be used for development of the state not sharing among politicians as usual...

He will serve his 8 years complete and if possible we will like to get another rev father to take over from him.

Benue state need leaders like Alia who will tell Akume and his gang that the state resources belong to the state and not for their personal use just as Alia is doing

Wasn't promised anything. Dude had no muscle to stage an offensive against the governor. The odds were stacked against him to the top of mount Everest.

Reverend Father playing dirty politics with Akume.....
This has nothing to do with Akume. The speaker was misled by public support/sentiments to go against the governor, stepping down commissioner nominees, suspending the SUBEB Executive Secretary, and tinkering with REAL local government autonomy.

The governor singlehandedly made him speaker, the governor unmade him as well.
