Where Was Abiodun In The June 12 Struggle? - Ogun Progressive Alliance by bestofnollywood(op): 6:00pm On Aug 24, 2025
A political pressure group, the Ogun State Progressive Alliance, has launched a vehement attack on Governor Dapo Abiodun, directly challenging his democratic credentials and anointing Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel as the state’s legitimate progressive leader.

The group’s criticism hinges on a historical contrast: they allege that during the pivotal struggle for June 12 democracy in the 1990s, Governor Abiodun was aligned with the military regime of General Sani Abacha, which opposed the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO). Meanwhile, they credit Daniel with being a key financier and material supporter of the pro-democracy group Afenifere, and a peacemaker who resolved a major conflict between OPC factions.

“Where was Dapo Abiodun during the June 12 struggle to now claim he’s a progressive?” challenged the chairman of the Progressive Alliance, Comrade Solomon Adegunle.

The group elaborated on Daniel’s political journey, revealing that his defection to the PDP was endorsed by Bola Tinubu after the old guard in the Alliance for Democracy (AD) blocked younger politicians. They noted that Daniel’s policies in office, which reflected core progressive values, earned him the respectful nickname “Afenifere PDP” and widespread acclaim across Ogun State.

The Alliance asserts that Abiodun’s alleged service under the Abacha administration disqualifies him from the progressive camp, arguing that his record pales in comparison to Daniel’s documented commitment to development.

"Abiodun is only tarnishing Otunba Daniel to distract from his administration’s recent scandals. Ogun’s people are not deceived. They recognize propaganda and desperation when they see it," stated the group's secretary, Musefiu Oladimeji.

This escalating public feud has cast a spotlight on Governor Abiodun’s governance and his political tactics, with potential implications for the credibility of the APC and the political dynamics of Ogun State as the 2027 elections approach.

Dàpo Eleyi Abiodun and Gbenga Daniel are both unserious people. They are fighting for supremacy instead of fixing the numerous road problems in the state.

Where was Daniel too during the June 12? Not even Amosun was around then not to talk of Daniel or DA

The June 12 struggle was mostly for the Egba's and Owu's from Ogun state. Other states got involved than the Ijebu and Remo people

Every Tom , Dick and Harry now claim champion of democracy on the basis of being part of NADECO as if it’s the only credential for being a good leader. NADECO this, NADECO that,
NADECO of thieves!!

What has this got to do with the present? People just like emotions. Where was Paul or even the disciples during the crucifixion? Does that determine their future when their present made up? Apart from Tinubu, where were any of the South West governors in June 12? June 12 events were significant but they don't exclude people or equate all that partook with sainthood.

Hahaha

Ijebu and Remo are not one when it comes to politics. Go and get your facts right. At the last Ojude Oba, one artist was singing Ijebu lokan, meaning the governor of the state is the turn of Ijebu.

Meanwhile, the same Ijebu and Remo people always count Egba and Owu as one politically

Na their concern. Dapo want to go to Senate after the expiration of his tenure.Otunba Justus Olugbenga Daniel is the current Senator of the Ogun East senatorial District and He's well loved by the people. That's the caused of their rift.Governor Dapo is seeing Daniel as blocked stone.hence his suspension from the party for Anti party Because if they go for primary OGD will beat DA hands down.

Exactly. Don't mind that Eleyi. I really don't know what he and Amosun achieved in Ogun State. Throughout Amosun tenure and during Dapos first tenure , Ijebu Odes roads were in
their worst state since the 80s. I still see Gbenga Daniels tenure as the best performed among all the living past governors including Osobas time. Ijebu roads were well maintained during his tenure and he didn't lead Ogun State into unnecessary debt like Amosun did which led to Chinese embarrassment by sizing our presidential jet. That almost ran Ogun State bankrupt. I really don't know what DAs impact is in Ogun State despite Oguns proximity to Lagos and it's potential for revenue generation. DAs only achievement is playing politics. I won't be surprised though if Osoba too is exploiting his closeness to Tinubu to frustrate GD.

With benefit of hindsight, I guess it's safe to also ask, where was Tinubu during June 12? It's a well known fact that he ran away in the heat of the struggle only to return and claim to have been fighting Abacha from Chicago. Iragbiji Simon Ekpa.

Abiodun is playing politics of bitterness. He's not a match for OGD in all respects!
