Wasted Transport, Wasted Photocopies – Kaduna Polytechnic Broke My Heart by TechToyin(op):
This morning I woke up on the bright side, hopeful about starting my journey after NYSC.

I saw the notice about Kaduna Polytechnic and prepared myself fully. I borrowed ₦5,000 just for transport and photocopying, since they said we must bring 10 photocopies of all credentials. I printed my CV, wrote an application letter, and made 10 copies each of my NYSC certificate, statement of result, and other documents.

This was my first application after NYSC, so I gave it my all.

When I got to the Central Administrative Block, to my shock, they simply told me it was closed.

Just yesterday, there was no notice of any deadline. Today, I’m left stranded — transport wasted, photocopies wasted, money wasted.

Right now, I honestly feel depressed. I struggled to put this money together, only for everything to go down the drain without even getting the chance to submit.

Sometimes it feels like the system doesn’t care how much we struggle as young people trying to build our future.

Sorry about this.

Unfortunately, this is the norm in civil service. It's a rotten and corrupt world out there.

Closing date is clearly there.
It is clearly stated 4 weeks from the date of publication and that expired on 18th August. I don't know if you saw that or decided to ignore.
I have the ad and it was published on July 18 and it was clearly stated application will close after 4 weeks.

Those jobs are reserved for indigenous people of kaduna or hausa extraction. I will suggest you go back to yorubaland especially as you can't speak hausa. With the amount of nepotism brought about by buhari & tinubu you are probably not getting any state or federal job outside your region

You are just starting, and you are murmuring.

What is wrong with young people of nowadays?

The system should "care for you?"

Why should someone need to learn a skill if the person went to a university for 4 years?

Trust some people not to be able to pay attention to details.

Government agencies should by now have done away with manual screening. People should be able to apply and upload documents online.

All these skills? And you just finished NYSC too yet you're already borrowing 5k?

No savings at all from your alawee? Besides your skills should bringing money, if they are not, consider physical skills like painting, solar installation and pop. You can't be borrowing 5k again if you can master those skills.

No sir.
The institution never had intention of embarking on any recruitment based on merit. From the date it was posted till now.
As a matter of fact, the advert was released last week and when I read through it, I saw a red flag and that's why I didn't bother to apply.

This is the reality. Maybe when you are in the higher institution, you have a brother or sister that was jobless, frustrated and always broke, this is the true feeling they always have every single time they apply, or attend an interview.
My dear country man, Nigerians are not lazy the system is the one making us look lazy and unintelligent.

That is Nigeria for you. Tinubu does not care if you are suicidal or have a piece to eat.

Immediately you figure out how start earning a few nickels- legally or illegally, he will start thinking of how to dip his hands into your pocket in the guise of taking Taxes and levies.

What happened to you isn’t just about transport money or photocopies — it’s about how easily young people’s efforts are disregarded. You prepared with all your strength, invested the little you had, and showed up with hope. Yet, without any consideration for applicants, they closed the process abruptly.

This is the silent struggle of many Nigerian youths after NYSC. We’re told to hustle, to be serious, to take opportunities — but when we do, the system fails to meet us halfway. It’s not just unfair, it’s disheartening.

A simple notice about the deadline, a clear communication update, or even a fair extension could have saved you (and others) from wasting scarce resources. But that courtesy was missing.

Your story highlights a deeper truth: young people are ready to work, ready to build their future, but they are constantly frustrated by poor structures and a lack of empathy from institutions. Until the system values effort as much as it demands it, many youths will continue to feel stranded, discouraged, and left behind.
