Seen many comments, yet very few sensible ones. We've heard Baba's side of the story, and boom, have rushed to place blame on the Bank.

What is 10.5mil to Firstbank that they would want to tarnish their reputation over? Let's hear the Bank's side of the story before casting aspersions, that is what reasonable people do.

Baba has said he has taken legal action, perfect. Something must come out of it. With time, we will realize who really is at fault. For now, let us keep our fingers crossed, and not make ourselves objects of public caricature.

Selah.

Traditional banks are safe because they have physical branches, Opay, Moniepoint, kuda, etc are not because they are online.

Una see for yourselves now.

This is not valid unless there is an authorization document to terminate the fixed deposit. What power of authority are you talking about? It's like saying your relationship manager can decide to use your funds as he she pleases? The man has stated that he always received his interest from FBN nigeria not an individual. In other words his 10m was stolen by the individual who paid the interest due to maintain the front of his capital still being with FBN.
The man is lying once you terminate an investment, it automatically defaults into its source account before it can be moved Therefore the man would know when his FD was terminated because he would get the alert of 10m but he skipped that part.

I agree with you if it was done the right way. However we can't ascertain that. For him to bring it on SM may mean there is more to this.

You are likely to be a banker to have reacted defensively in favour of the bank by assuming that the man story was not correct. Bankers are not saints I think it's thesame first bank that it's staff in east obtain from a customer account believing that the owner has forgotten the money. God dey Sha.
damosade:
My forensic view, One thing I know and very sure of, The customer knows his fund was not fixed in the bank after some were fixed in the bank. Subsequent rollover was not done which the customer is aware of. The guy in question has been using the fund for personal business and has been given baba little high interest more than what fd could give. When everything scattered and the money couldn't be accounted for again, baba excalated to the bank for possible reimbursement but the funds could not be traced because baba transferred the funds directly to the guy account. Next life baba should be very careful in trusting anyone working in the bank.
So bank doesn't have any documents that could prove an insider fraud which can be used against them in the Court. If bank knows they are at fault, the account of the customer would have been regularise without any excalation.

yes customers do have special relationships with their individual bankers, they enjoy it until things go bad and then they claim ignorance. grin, for example your relationship manager can tell you that there is a business deal that will give you better returns instead of your FD with the bank, then you will begin to enjoy high returns until the deal crashes and then you blame the bank
The point is, can the relationship manager move the money out without your written instruction or cheque? If the bank can show this, then the customer has no grounds to complain but im not aware of banks running on verbal instructions oo!

if a fraud is carried out without your knowledge, the bank will know and oftentimes the bank repairs your account without you even knowing. Once you see this type of stories just know that the customer and his account officer where doing the deal together
my point is that any bank with standards should not allow their staff to have such dealings with a customer because it violates trust, all transactions must follow the proper official chanel or else it leaves room for fraud

What I know about Nigerian banks is that they'll rather dance through the courts for fifty years, spending times twenty of the money you're complaining about than to pay you that 10.5m their staff stole. Baba, just pray hard sha

Deal with assets management directly, notably Stanbic IBTC asset management, ARM ONE, NUREMBERGER etc.
Fixed deposit profit is far less than mutual funds 👌💯

Did the banker unilaterally terminate the account without the customer's consent or did he forge his signature?

I believe they have a fraud unit in the bank, a complaint should be made to them first. If they ignore him, then he should proceed to sue them for negligence. It's sad that he had to call out first.
..they should find way to arrest shehu and if they can recover some money from him

Bankers are like sales men you cannot always know every discussion or conversations they have with customers. However, banks do have robust controls

that is why there should be a deliberate policy in place to safeguard customers and build trust and prevent them from preying on gullible and aged customers.

The same way I see the cure for cancer on Nairaland every week when reality shows different. That is a perfect world situation. I know many people who banks or employed fraudsters in suits have withheld their funds. Decades have gone and all they have are a memory of regret.

SSpeter:
I can equivocally tell you that the man had a special relationship with the bank that went bad. when fraud happens once there is a trail that it was a fraud that happened without customers' consent, the bank will repair your account even without you complaining. But when the bank (any commercial bank) investigates and sees that there is a collusion between the customer and it's staffer the bank will not refund you.

He should have invested in Opay, nothing like business manager, customers manages their account by themselves, i will never invest in any commercial banks.

That was how they did with my daddy current account.Account manager will collect money from him and will not deposit it.They first disconnected the alert notification. Let me teach what you will do,check online and find their headquarter number ,call them ,they will answer you. Provide them all necessary answer to the question you being asked that is all. Both manager and those connected to it will go down and you will receive your money.
That is the only solution you have.
