Christistruth03:ijaw version my ass, so the ijaw is now the custodian of the Benin culture, are you saying the palace does not know it's ancestry, the Benin people does not know their ancestry anymore. Several records abound the Benin kingdom and it's history you can't bring strangers opinion and establish it as fact, my question still remains. |

Osariemen12:Even with all the evidence posted from the time when my grandfather was not even birthed, you are still arguing. We have nothing to gain financially from this old history but you can't reinvent the wheel, you cant rewrite the history of Benin. The greatest of Benin historian was Jacob Egharevba, his book (Ekharavbi itan Edo (1933) and its first translation A short history of Benin (Lagos, C.M.S Bookshop1936) opened thus ...Many, many years ago, Odua ( oduduwa) of uhe( Ile-Ife) the father and the progenitor of the Yoruba Kings sent his eldest son Obagodo who took the title of Ogiso with a large retinue all the way from Uhe to found a Kingdom in this part of the World. At the moment of his departure his father gave him a charm in the form of a snail shell containing some earth to invest him with absolute power and right over the lands that should come under his sway".P.7 The first and all other Ogisos are from Oduduwa which means that Yorubas were the progenitors of those Ogisos and later Eweka, the first Oba of Benin. Everything revolved around Yoruba. Would you dispute his narration and all the evidences that negate your opinion?

saddler:Truly Ogiame and Ogisos are edoid words. But you didn't recall there's mixture of culture in the past? Some tribes in Nigeria were formed from mixture of culture. Now a question for you too. What's the meaning of the word Olu? You need to tell it's pure meaning and where it originated from. Note, it's good to read wide in history. saddler:This part has nothing to do with the word Oduduwa. Oduduwa has deep and direct meaning, word for word in Yoruba language. From the history of those people that's read worldwide. This contention is suspicious and looking political. It came into limelight around 2022 to 2023 elections. But again answer these two questions. 1. What's the meaning of the word OLU in the title of Olu of Warri? 2. Why is the account of Warri, Ijebus, Ugbo people, Okun People and other tribes having ties with Lukunmi people tallying with Ile-Ife records except Bini own? |

Oranmiyan did not abandon Alaafin throne, he went to conquer Ile Ife and to make Ife as part of the Oyo empire. You don't abandon a throne for another throne, you conquer more thrones because more conquests meant bigger empire |

brownlolly:The "Adimu" story is not supported by established historical accounts. It is highly unlikely that a slave would be elevated to Priest-King status and left in charge of an ancestral kingdom by Oranmiyan going by known Yoruba traditions and culture. The Ooni is also known as "Arole Oodua" (heir to Oduduwa). It is therefore clear that Oranmiyan as a descendant of Oduduwa would be very unlikely to thrust a slave into the role of an heir to Oduduwa by installing the slave on the throne of Oduduwa. |

You know when I read it, I thought the same thing too, but in the face of so many obscure comments and stories, it also kinda seemed reasonable, and it supports the statement of the fact that Oyo became the political stronghold since Oranyan moved there. I'm open to other stories though, even though I'd stick to this one for now. You mentioned historical accounts. Can you share references? Babinski: |
| Re: Why Did Oranmiyan Leave?: Wike's Aide Reacts To Rift Between Ooni And Alaafin by lawani(m): 2:05am On Aug 26, 2025 |
Babinski:According to Ijesa account, Oyo has not always been prominent and Ife was at one point mainly under the protection of Ijesa. The Owa Obokun was a son of Oduduwa and when there was civil war in Ile Ife, he quelled the war and said the unborn child of Oduduwa's Oluwo will be made King. Ijesa account says he was the one that impregnated the Oluwo that belonged to his Dad. The child of the Oluwo became the first Ooni. When the kid is regally dressed, people will ask who is this child and they will say Omo Oluwo ni which was contracted to Ooni |

Oranmiyan never existed, neither did oduduwa. These ethnic fairytales need to be treated as such, they were created by politicians in the colonial era. Oni of ife is not an emperor, he leads only Ife, which was a small settlement until 1912 when the British started urbanizing it. Nobody migrated from Ife. It is the British and southwest politicians who elevated the Oni of ife above his original position of minor king (or priest). Oyo actually has a king of a real kingdom, not a king/priest of a small settlement like Ife had. |

lawani:It is a common historical account that the Ijesa people originally lived in Ile-Ife before migrating to Ilesa and environs. The Ijesa trace their origin to Owa Obokun in some accounts and to Owa Ajibogun in other accounts. Both were said to be sons or grandsons of Oduduwa. No genuine historical account affirms that Ile-Ife was ever under the protection of Ijesa. Oduduwa is widely agreed as the first Ooni. It is also widely agreed that Ooni is contracted from Oonirisa meaning "owner or custodian of the gods or dieties". Sorry to say but the "Omo Oluwo ni" story is no more than a feeble and laughable attempt at revisionism. |

History of the Yorubas by Samuel Johnson — details the Ooni’s descent from Oduduwa and his central spiritual role in Ile Ife. 2. How Samuel Johnson managed to fool you guys up to this day must be studied by psychiatrists. Samuel wrote a work of fiction ! A story with no witness! You guys really lack common sense. Yoruba love revisionism more than Brazil loves football. Once again, there was no oduduwa! All these are stories just like that of santa 🎅🏿 It's embarrassing that adults in 2025 are still being fooled by this children stories. This is what happens when history is not studied rigourously. |

You guys clearly lack education. The way you go about confusing fairytales with actual history and you do all this not as a joke but with focus and seriousness. Oduduwa is a fairytale figure ! Look for eyewitness written docs. |

I think the story is true that the crown alafin is wearing now was given to him I used to wonder why the late alafin adeyemi always wore (abetiaja cap) during outing why the other lesser king wore their crown same thing is with the new alafin now always on cap I think the only crown the alafin has now is the beaded ancient crown proof me right if am wrong from this perspective is clear to note that ooni is the superior king can you if count the crown of ooni . |

Babinski:Of course there were people on Ijesa land before the arrival of Owa Ajibogun. Erinmoje was on Ijesa land. Owa Obokun who is son of the last Oduduwa came from Ile Ife and established a new dynasty and nation state but the land contained people before him. Remember that the last Oduduwa is not more than 1500 years ago and that is quite recent |

Solosolojohquay:The problem is that in the past the most powerful Yoruba states were controlling Ife unlike now that the government is controlling everybody. If we were still using the old system the Ooni would be respected but not feared or obeyed. The person feared or obeyed will be the head of the most powerful state |

You think the one's crown is ancient ? 😂 You must be joking. The oldest one is from the early colonial era, all the rest are from the colonial era or recent creations, the latest one copies the crown of the Oba of Benin. Whatever you can accuse the alafin of doing, the Oni is also doing it. Solosolojohquay: |

Most of you say what you don't know in the palace the beaded crown is the most senior crown that is usually wore during festival it is called the crown of the creation cone shape crown with tiny beads that cover the face like curtain that is the only crown alafin had and he can't be wearing it every time. |

^^^^try and quote correctly. Nobody cares about the name you give that alafin's crown. Now, what people care about is the age of that crown. Come with proof too, not just hot air. One thing I know is that the oni's oldest crown is younger than Nigeria. The alafin might have a crown older than Nigeria. The oldest crown of a Nigerian monarch is in the British museum and it is that of the Oba of Benin. |

Does that change the fact that the Father is still the biological father of the son. Does Power change fact and history? Ife gave birth to Oyo, who became a super power. Does that change the fact that Ife gave birth to Oyo? No Be Juju Be Dat? |

1. Ife never gave birth to oyo. 2. Oyo was never a superpower 3. Oyo is older than Ife. 4. Everything you guys say about Ife are mere myths, no proof to back the Ife myths. 5. Actually it is rather easy to prove Ife myths to be false: Ife was a small settlement until 1912. immaculatesense: |

You: "Who founded Ife?" Me: Asking this question is the same as asking "who was the first man to swim ?". It only shows your poor intelect that you think this is a valid question for a region which had no written language. You:"Who founded Oyo?" Me: Same as above You: Who was the first Ooni of Ife? Me: Same as above Who was the first Alaafin of Oyo? Me: Same as above immaculatesense: |
