President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot continue to look away while his administration is hijacked by reckless loudmouths like Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Nyesom Wike. This is a man who has built a reputation not on defending Nigerians, not on exposing corruption, not on championing reforms, but on threatening citizens with impunity and disdain. For years, Olayinka has made treasonous remarks, speaking as though Nigerians should be decapitated for daring to comment on national issues. And now he dares to call for gagging social media, demanding bottlenecks and gatekeeping to silence Nigerians. What he has never once called for is the prosecution of looters, the dismantling of corruption networks, or accountability within government. This is the face of a deeper rot: unelected aides who talk down to the electorate as if they were mob enforcers, not public servants. Nigerians did not elect Lere Olayinka. He has no mandate. His only qualification appears to be a reckless mouth and loyalty to a political boss. Yet his voice is amplified from inside Tinubu’s government, poisoning public trust and making the president himself the target of growing resentment. Enough is enough. If Tinubu is serious about discipline and respect in his administration, he must fire Lere Olayinka immediately. Political appointees can squabble in private, but when addressing Nigerians, they must do so with humility and respect. Anything less is abuse of the very people who gave Tinubu his mandate. Every day Olayinka remains in office is another day Tinubu’s presidency is undermined by arrogance, contempt, and disregard for Nigerians. The time to act is now. Fire Lere Olayinka.

The fact is humanity always failed to learn from history. However, whatever evil you supports today always come around to hunt you tomorrow. Karma and providence does not forget or forgive. |

Wait, is this because of the NIN and ID for opening and managing social media accounts as suggested by Lere? Does he not have a right to his own opinions again? |
| Re: Editorial: Tinubu Must Fire Lere Olayinka Now. by DeLaRue: 7:06am On Aug 26, 2025 |
He doesn't work for the President, and I don't see what he has done to warrant your call for his sacking. You don't like what he says about the people you support? I thought you people were advocates of unrestricted freedom of speech. Let him talk now. |

Lere is the perfect person you haters of progress in Niheria deserve. I love how he gives una wotowoto all the time. |

The loudmouths Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Nyesom Wike has assume the position of the Federal Government spoke man. He react to anything. It seems he's growing his social media account. He should react only to statement directed to his boss, but no! He react to everything. Before the Federal Government will react, Lere Olayinka has open his loudmouth to speak. Wike is there so the Presidency cannot dare him. |

LibertyRep:He has a right to his own opinion.....Thats why they need to fire him. So he can spend the whole day voicing his opinion. Its wrong to be voicing his private opinion as Wike's spokesman........He is violating his contract and assignment. |

He's indirectly de-marketing tinubu with his arrogance . Imagine telling Nigerians to get NIN before they could be allowed to access the social media ... |

mascot87:He's only de-marketing tinubu amongst the youths Nothing like wotowoto in what he's saying . |

DeLaRue: I do not stand with any politician. I stand with Nigerians. Lere Olayinka’s utterances are condescending and outright anti-constitutional. If he wishes to continue talking recklessly, then he has no business holding public office and should be fired immediately. As an appointee, his duty is to respect the electoral mandate that put his boss in office, not to insult Nigerians. |

Iphupa: This is the same thing that happened during military regime (anybody advocating for democracy was called a coup sponsor ) You guys are slowly taking us back to the dark days. When we speak on matters that need to be addressed, even as people who voted Tinubu you call us ADC,NNPP,Obedients all sorts of names.....lol |

malali:Not sure I care about most of what you wrote, they sound more emotional than logical. However, the unconstitutional part interests me. What has he said that is unconstitutional? |
| Re: Editorial: Tinubu Must Fire Lere Olayinka Now. by ERockson: 7:47am On Aug 26, 2025 |
Let's know your identity if you are not coward. For example anything you can not say without your real identity don't say it |
| Re: Editorial: Tinubu Must Fire Lere Olayinka Now. by MaiDeribe: 7:48am On Aug 26, 2025 |
erad:Not sure where you got the emotions from.....but i am glad you are able to realize logic. What makes Lere Olayinka’s stance unconstitutional is his call to restrict or bottleneck social media access through NIN and BVN requirements. Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution (as amended) guarantees freedom of expression and the right to hold opinions under Section 39. Trying to condition citizens’ ability to speak, comment, or criticize government on bureaucratic gatekeeping is an attempt to curtail that right without due process of law. Olayinka is not an elected official, yet he openly advocates measures that would gag Nigerians instead of addressing the core issues of corruption and accountability. That is why I describe his utterances as anti-constitutional, they are hostile to a right the Constitution explicitly protects. |
| Re: Editorial: Tinubu Must Fire Lere Olayinka Now. by MaiDeribe: 7:50am On Aug 26, 2025 |
ERockson: My identity is not the issue here, the Constitution is. Section 39 guarantees me the right to speak freely with or without attaching my name or ID to it. Democracy protects anonymous speech just as much as open speech, because ideas matter more than faces. Only dictators demand identities before listening to citizens. If the truth stings so badly that you need my BVN before you can confront it, then you’ve already lost the argument. |

I had to check the profile out to see the person advising Tinubu to fire someone because that someone is bad for Tinubu. ![]() If a Gringori supporter tells you to fire someone, give that person a pay rise, he's probably doing a fantastic job and they want the person out the way so they can have their way. ![]() |

No wonder you are wailing this pathetically. The idiot is dancing naked in the market to please his grab and run with it masters for crumbs from our commonwealth. These are the nature of humans that deserves to be confined in the desert when a new Nigeria births. |
| Re: Editorial: Tinubu Must Fire Lere Olayinka Now. by ERockson: 8:14am On Aug 26, 2025 |
MaiDeribe:You can't stay under anonymous and lie against people or dupe people. It is your types that cry when United State demand the internet identity or social media identity of anyone requesting to come the USA henceforth. The moment we realize that whatever we say or do on the internet, we can be held accountable we will be cautious. |
| Re: Editorial: Tinubu Must Fire Lere Olayinka Now. by erad(m): 8:17am On Aug 26, 2025 |
MaiDeribe:OK... I get where you're coming from. But his suggestion isn't preventing freedom of speech in any way. Freedom of speech has never been the issue, the abuse of it has. If social media existed when the constitution was written, I'm sure it wouldn't be as vague as it is. I get you, but I also want you to understand the constitution has to protect everyone, as well as laws. Now when random people come and harass/bully someone online, that's freedom of speech, right? But what laws protect the person being harassed/bullied? At least if you'll throw stones at me, do it with your full chest and with the understanding that there will be repercussions if you're doing it maliciously. So if his intention is to gag people from expressing themselves rationally, then that's just wrong. But if his intentions is to protect those at the receiving end of cyber bullying and online harassment, I think he has a point. Freedom of speech and reckless statements are different. |

They should sack him for airing his opinion Abi . When have you called for the arrest of Sheikh Gumi and his co terrorist sponsors ? When will you call for the carpet bombing of Sambisa and other terror hubs . You better face your front |
| Re: Editorial: Tinubu Must Fire Lere Olayinka Now. by malali(op): 8:30am On Aug 26, 2025 |
erad: Why is Lere Olayinka suddenly a social media visionary, seemingly outpacing even Mark Zuckerberg? Where was this same energy when politicians openly siphoned government funds? Nigerians are fed up with unelected appointees wielding power without accountability. We are not living under an autocracy. If Lere truly wants to push laws, he should resign, run for office, secure the mandate, and then present his case. As a private citizen, he can propose anything, even mandatory picture IDs for social media, but as an appointee, his duty is to serve within his role and respect the people he represents. |

I thought nobody was going to point this out. But hey! He will get what he is looking for, I trust Nigerians to put him in his place. Lere is thinking he could replicate the uncouthness he inherited from fayose and now Wike in the presidency, mounting the podium everyday to insult Nigerians in the name of loyalty to a crooked boss. It's a matter of time, lere would be massively cancelled. |
| Re: Editorial: Tinubu Must Fire Lere Olayinka Now. by malali(op): 8:33am On Aug 26, 2025 |
Zincfingers:Totally irrelevant discuss. Not defending sheikh Gumi...but sheikh Gumi is not a government spokesman.....all his crazy talk is as a private citizen. Lere Olayinka too can talk as crazy as he wants....but as a private citizen. Democracy has rules...you cannot use a government appointed office to turn yourself into a lawmaker...or mention things above your pay grade. |
