It's a backup plan. Like having a fully charged-phone and also a fully-charged power bank. The power bank comes in handy when your phone's battery is almost out. In the same vein, NECO examination comes in handy when candidates' WAEC results have a few rough edges. If you scored an F in Maths and you're lucky to pass the same subject in NECO, you'd be good to go.

NECO alone will frustrate you at some point.

The discrimination against NECO Certificate in preference for WAEC Certificate, is worse than the discrimination against HND Certificate in preference for BSc Certificate.

I wonder what discrimination you are talking about. I used NECO to get adnmission to FUTO, I didnt write Jamb twice. No one denied me admission because i had NECO

Lol. I graduated from FUTO 14 years ago. I have worked globally. My current job is in a multinational, they did not even ask to see my degree because I already have global Oil and gas experience and relevant professional certifications. I have passed over Jobs in Naija that offered millions because It did not meet my expectations. Keep hoping for the day I will understand

Some people will just come up with irrational thoughts.
I combined my WAEC and NECO and I got admitted to US universities and a school in Europe.

During my time many years ago, I sat for NECO and WAEC, I had more As and Bs in my NECO than in my WAEC, so because of that, as a teenager, I cherished my NECO more and that has been what I have been using in all my academic pursuit and as you may know, I am a PhD student.


So don't let anybody deceive or mislead you, the discrimination of NECO by some people is out of ignorance and foolishness

There is nothing to understand, they are telling you nothing but the truth, calm down and learn from experienced people.

NECO is as valid as WAEC all over the world.


If you have ever applied for admission at any university abroad, you will notice that they always list WAEC or NECO as prerequisite for admission to prove you completed your secondary/high school education in Nigeria, so what other discrimination are you talking about that need to be understood, or is it the discrimination in your own head and imagination?

Don't confuse him. NECO is absolutely accepted across the world. If you disagree, list just few countries that decline NECO certificate.

@DaCharis2016, you're perfectly safe with your NECO result. You can use it anywhere.

Take it from someone who himself has a NECO certificate and also has countless people using their NECO result to further their education across the world.

Do you know how many universities in USA, Canada, UK, and Australia that all reject NECO Certificate even if you get 9As in it?

How do you mean by this statement?

I've a course mate that got fully funded scholarship in Rochester University, USA with his NECO result. Infact, he got straight - PhD program.


Are you saying one can't get admission abroad with his NECO result ?

Several University and Colleges in Canada, UK, USA, and Australia write it boldly on their Website. "We do not accept NECO".

You can say why not apply to those that accept NECO?

What if that one is the one that have the Course you desire, or has Tuition fees that suit your budget?
