Senators’ Productivity Index: Ekiti Leads, Sokoto And FCT Rank Lowest by DrMB(op): 8:14pm On Aug 26, 2025
Why does tiny Ekiti outshine giant Kano and Lagos in senatorial productivity? How can the Federal Capital Territory, the political heartbeat of Nigeria, rank dead last? And what explains Sokoto’s slide to the bottom despite its storied political heritage?

These are the puzzles thrown up by the latest Senators’ Productivity Index (June 2023 – June 2024), which ranks Ekiti at the very top with a staggering 292 points, while Sokoto and the FCT trail behind with scores of 15 and 11 respectively.

It isn't Rocket Science. Bills sponsored, that then becomes ratified as law, as one example, can be a measure of productivity of Senators per State.

So too the success rate of Senators at meeting needs of their constituency. Their engagement with the executive arm is also available to use as a measure of productivity etc.

How dare you refer to Ekiti as "Tiny"? Have you had an aerial view of the State before? State of honour!

Please be modest in your commentary, such that your language will not diminish your message.

Ekiti is the knowledge reservoir of the Nation so you don't expect anything short of excellence.

How did those data come about? On what criteria was the data based? Which body brought those data?

Statistics should not just come out without being backed by authenticity.

While it is possible but don't forget that FCT has just one senator while other states have three senators each. So no matter the work rate of the FCT senator, she might always come last as she is doing what three people are supposed to do.
Re: Senators’ Productivity Index: Ekiti Leads, Sokoto And FCT Rank Lowest by fasho01(m): 7:59am On Aug 27, 2025
First of all, what is senator productivity index and how is it calculated? There are 3 senators per state, what did they each contribute to the final figure? That's what research is and what such so called productivity index should include. Which kind of country is this where data is just thrown at us left right and centre without telling us how they came about ithuh

Mods, please stop putting these stories with lazy reportage on front page. You're encouraging the trend. It is neither educative or informative angry

Re: Senators’ Productivity Index: Ekiti Leads, Sokoto And FCT Rank Lowest by rttarbo6: 11:32am On Aug 27, 2025
This ranking reflects the aggregation of the productivity of senators from each state during plenary sessions in the first session of the 10th National Assembly. Productivity was measured through various legislative actions such as substantive and procedural motions, contributions to debates, petitions presented, points of order and privileges raised, motions for amendment, and bills sponsored etc. Each plenary action undertaken by a senator was documented to assess individual performance. Since each state is represented by three senators except the FCT, which has one, the combined legislative actions of these senators at plenary were aggregated to determine the overall national ranking of states.

For context, those are not points but the aggregation of legislative actions performed by each state at plenary in the first session of the 10th National Assembly. FCT has one senator compared to states having three each. For further insights, download the full report - https://ergafafrica.org/download/2158/?tmstv=1756217465
