How old were you when you learnt that 9-5 is 9hrs a day, 5days a week and not 9am-5pm

People resume work as early as 7:30 here in Nigeria and close by 4pm...so technically we work more hours than 9-5 and earn less

Back with a little understanding. 9 - 5 is used to refer to jobs. Which job is nine hours? Everyone knows 9 - 5 literally means the eight hours of 9 a.m - 5 p.m. The boy should get out!

But i get it. in the past, I always wandered why they started the counting from 9am, when in reality, most Nigerian offices resume at 8am. I see say na just copy copy language. Na 8-5 be the common one for 9ja

This is just one genZ trying to redefine a word.

9-5 means 9am to 5pm everywhere in the world. Nigerian employers are slave masters, and that's why most of us resume work by 8am here.

That meaning up there is just one jobless person trying to create issues where there's none.

9hrs a day: i.e 8am - 5pm (on average)
and
5days a week: Monday - Friday.

Normal working condition. my office is 9-4pm, which is even shorter.

9-5 is 9 am to 5pm. Which is the standard work day in the UK with 1/2 hr lunch break

In Nigeria the standard work day is 8am-4pm

Stop spreading misinformation, the standard work day as set by the INternational Labour organisation is 8hrs a day. These are international labour laws

In some countries it is 9-5 only because of daylight saving time etc otherwise the standard working day is 8hrs.

People work from 8am to 4pm, 8am to 5pm, 9am to 5pm.
People do 12-hour shifts.

Don't let someone less intelligent than you start winding you.

9am to 5pm which equals 8hrs.

A standard working week is 40 hours.

"Today" years old.

Funny how you hear things over and over again and then later find out your interpretation was wrong

However meanings are subjective from my little research. I see most interpretations refer to 9am to 5pm jobs.

Mr Man, 9-5 is official work time in Yankee o, don’t get it twisted.

its just now that i know it. but how comes its not 9am to 5pm

I started as 9a.m to 5p.m, 5 days a week, 48mins break in-between. 36hrs a week.

But switched to work 4 days a week.

I resume work at 7.30a.m, closes by 5.30p.m.

1 hour break in-between

36hrs a week.

This is false and misleading. 9 to 5 refers to the work hours per day and not 9 hours a day and 5 times a week.

The definition was only extended to refer to the 9 hours a day and 5 times a week you're claiming here, but that's not the original definition.

9 to 5 is 9 am to 5 pm.
