Moment Sowere Took Photos With A Painter At The Federal High Court Abuja

At the Federal High Court today, a hardworking man, a painter, saw me walk past. He called me over and asked if we could take a photo together.

I felt genuinely privileged. Here was a man who, despite his modest appearance, radiated dignity. He was faithful to his craft, content with honest labor, and proud enough to share that moment with me.

He didn’t care about looking polished or perfect. What mattered was his sweat, and the joy he found in his work.

I was overjoyed to stand with him, to honor his request, and to be reminded once again of the beauty and resilience of ordinary Nigerians.

Sadly, it is rare to find his kind in a nation where those who barely lift a finger in honest labor are celebrated for stealing and even when dragged before these same courts; they escape accountability by simply buying their way out.

Love or hate him, there's a reason why he's doing what he is doing. Like Gani Fawehinmi, Sowore is one of the few consciences of the Nation. You may discard him today, but posterity will be kind to him someday. Most times, we don't value what we have.

State boundaries were never drawn to respect location of ethnicities. It was a rule of division created by Gowon's government to scatter the Biafran agitation at the time.
