When a high profile personality expecially political ones visit is or her base, alot of loyalist will join his entourage to anywhere he goes before departure. Just look at the screen shot of the comment and it is mostly from one particular region who because of election loss of their brother can't enable them to reason again. When okpeboho visited my LGA early this month, my friend who is seeking for chairmanship left Lagos for Benin and joined the governors convoy with is two exotic cars and if people like those ignorant folk saw the convoy, they will scream and say the governor spent so much in buying all the cars. The first lady may not have more than five cars attached to her but one bitter guy said he counted 97 and if you checked well, he might be in onitsha presently. All these things isn't about standing in the sun to beg for peanut.
Those of us trying to create a different narrative needs to understand how human reasoning works in order to be able to change things.
Politics anywhere is understanding the needs of the people, which is short and long term needs.
What you call vote buying in Africa is called Lobbying in the Western world.
Have you ever thought of why the major project of any govt is Road and Electricity? That's the most visible for the populace, others require a degree of wants before they can consider it, eg, if they don't fall sick, they don't see health as a need, they aren't farmers so they need no understanding of Agric policy, etc
However, you are coming to solicit for their support in getting to a post, they know you may or may not fulfill your promises due to previous experience with others, so they want a commitment, which starts from catering for immediate needs, eg, solar lamps to house holds, exercise books for their children, a bowl of different staple meals to house holds, etc.
All these are not just for the poor, the rich within the community also gets it.
A typical example was COVID palliative, when some were not shared in time, people looted in house of the wealthy.
When you get involved in political affairs within your community, you will understand better.
