The yorubas and the igbo engaged in a violent battle early today in the city of Lagos over little disagreement that was initiated by two random individual with different ethnic group.

It however resulted in the death of two persons before the intervention of the police men.

Tribal Clash Rocks Mandilas Market in Lagos Island — One Dead, Several Injured as Violence Erupts

Chaos erupted at Mandilas Market in Lagos Island on Tuesday after a heated dispute between two traders over job earnings turned violent, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

Eyewitnesses said the altercation began when a Yoruba trader brought a customer to an Igbo trader for a business deal. When it was time to share the proceeds, an argument ensued. The confrontation quickly escalated into a fight, during which the Igbo trader allegedly stabbed the Yoruba trader.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but later confirmed dead, sparking anger among his friends and supporters from the Agarawu area, who stormed the market in retaliation. Several innocent bystanders were reportedly injured in the chaos.

The Igbo trader accused of the stabbing was beaten by the crowd before being taken into police custody. The Lagos State Police Command has since confirmed the arrest and assured that normalcy has been restored to the area.
Authorities have called for calm, urging Lagos residents not to inflame ethnic divisions, while reinforcing security to prevent further violence.
The incident has raised serious concerns about fragile inter-ethnic relations in one of Lagos’s busiest commercial hubs.

Man stabs colleague to death in Lagos over money dispute

A deadly confrontation occurred on Wednesday in the Mandilas area of Lagos Island, leaving one person dead after a stabbing incident.

The Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, through CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Police Public Relations Officer, clarified in a statement made available to PUNCH Online that there was no tribal clash or ethnic conflict at Balogun Market, where the incident took place.

According to the police, “The Lagos State Police Command hereby wish to inform the general public that there was no tribal clash or disturbance between any ethnic groups and others inside Balogun Market today.

There was an incident of a free-for-all fight between some hoodlums and miscreants in the Balogun Market in the early hours of today at around 11 am.

During the fight, one Ebuka Adindu from Abia State stabbed one Sodiq Ibrahim from Kogi State to death, and the said Ebuka Adindu in turn stabbed himself on the shoulder and became unconscious. He is currently under arrest in the hospital, where he is being treated.

“Investigation into the matter will be concluded, and he will be prosecuted after he has been discharged from the hospital. There was no loss of innocent lives or injury to any person or damage to the goods and properties of marketers inside Balogun Market.”

The police emphasised that no innocent lives were lost beyond the victim, no other injuries were reported, and there was no damage to goods or property at the market.

Normalcy has been restored, and residents and traders have been urged to continue their activities without fear.

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, called on residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with the police to sustain peace in the state, stressing that Lagos remains generally peaceful.

Eyewitnesses said the conflict began as a disagreement between the two men over the division of money from a recent job. The argument escalated, resulting in the fatal stabbing.

Bystanders reportedly restrained the attacker before handing him over to authorities. Tensions briefly flared again when friends of the deceased protested, but order was quickly restored.

How are you sure that the people who died in this scuffle are from those you're sending warning to?
Instead of routing for peace, you want crises..

I hope these urchins don't escalate situation to a point where Aba and Onitsha will reply like the did early 2000 that tamed kaduna and kano riots.

Rather than allow fragile peace to reign, the bigotry has left street renaming and has gone into the markets. I pray igbos don't retaliate.

Some of you have a very poor sense of judgement. The details of what transpired is yet to be known but you guys have already been chest beating as usual, hiding behind your keyboard to continue with the as usual incitement.

Na God go save some of you

The details is already everywhere, an Igbo and yoruba guy had a squabble related to sharing money which degenerated to a fight, the yoruba guy stabbed the Igbo guy and the Igbo guy retaliated which led to the yoruba guy's death ,only for some group of yoruba boys to form a mob and start harassing innocent traders. I am not beating anything behind the key board because I witnessed what happened between hausa and Igbo until kaduna and kano became still and peace ful

Whatever the case might be, shouldn't peace be the first priority?

This is very troubling and concerning.

How does an issue between two individuals denegerate into ethnic squabble?

I blame Tinubu for enthroning tribalism and hardship. And paying people to accuse other tribes for the hardship he has brought.

Humanity has taken a back seat.

If the country will not unite why not peacefully divide and become good neighbours.

You have not even saved yourself from the small boys declaring sit-at-home every monday and kpai-ing peace loving Igbo people in Alaigbo. I think Igbos should focus on that first.

Was Tinubu the president when Igbos were tribally insulting the Hausa Fulani Kanuri for 8 years during Buhari’s administration?
Heck, one of Peter Obi's friend and rev father (Muonso) said 1 igbo man equals 500 hausamen.
Let me not even start with Nnamdi Kanu.

I can beat my chest with that because

I have nothing less than 80% accuracy on my analysis

Anything violence, attack, protest, propaganda, controversial you can never see me there

Staying with the topic of discussion without derailing, that's what we know beat to do

Respecting others opinions without forcing ours on them , we have not only practiced that but mastered it instead.

If NL is monetized today, I should be the highest earner

My profile on this forum is so rich for so many opportunities.

How about yours? Coughs
