Locally-Made Nigerian Assault Rifles By DICON (Photos) by Pakute(op): 7:41pm On Aug 27, 2025
The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) has unveiled the first images of locally manufactured assault rifles, marking a significant milestone in the country’s push for indigenous military production.

The photos, now making rounds on social media, showcase Nigeria’s ambition to reduce reliance on foreign arms imports by producing high-grade weapons domestically. Security analysts note that this move could bolster the country’s defense capabilities amid growing concerns over insecurity and insurgency.

The rifles are said to be designed with modern features to compete with global standards, reflecting DICON’s efforts to enhance local technology and military self-sufficiency.

The development has sparked excitement among Nigerians, many praising it as a breakthrough in homegrown defense innovation, while others urge the government to ensure mass production, quality testing, and proper deployment to troops on the frontlines.

If mass-produced successfully, the Made-in-Nigeria rifles could become a game-changer for the nation’s armed forces and strengthen the country’s defense industry on the global stage.

A good start, I'm loving this set of Army Chiefs and the determination of Administration to revive the industrial capacity of the military. We can't always depend on foreign arms & ammunition.

Looks very solid from physical analysis. Hopefully, it will be as effective as the Russian AK-47. Next is to be able to mass produce it for all our armed forces. Kudos.

Are you sad that we are getting it right under Tinubu administration?

If the previous administrations have started somewhere then we would have made advanced to more sophisticated rifles

This is what we're talking about. The countries producing their own weapons no get two head. While there's greater commitment towards the resuscitation of Ajaokuta steel. And particularly commendable that the Government is creating more ease for one or two investors that are already constructing their steel-making factories in the country.

-Kiss the truth!

You don't have to ask this kind of question, by their comments you shall know them. That's the goal, the goal is to pepper dem, put leg on their neck and leave it there, that's what good news does to them. God bless Nigeria.

Spot on baba, what is needed now is producing this on a large scale and that's where the steel factory comes into play.

It is just how they're wired to be. This is why some of us have made it a critical national duty to ensure Gringori Obi NEVER gets anywhere close to Aso Rock. Himself and all his supporters are desirous of one thing and one thing only: the destruction of Nigeria. It is the reason why they hardly ever hide their anger over anything that protects the country in good light or appears progressive.

These are the hallmark of IPOB creed.

Coming from one that claims he's from Benue.
Under your beloved Tinubu, Benue has more than 500,000 idp as a result of insecurity. You avoided that thread that made the frontpage and you talk about Obi 24/7.

National duty for where? Amaechi confessed how he gave the likes of you laptops.

Please when was the Defence Industrial Corporation set up? It even had a football team in the Nigerian league. This should not be that company's level now.
