Police Restore Peace To Owode Onirin After Clash Over Land by naptu2(op): 4:40am On Aug 28, 2025
Lots of Netizens complained that a person that they alleged was a land grabber invaded the community with thugs and policemen from outside Lagos and that they were shooting all through the invasion before policemen from Lagos State Police Command arrived and restored peace. Some people said that they were on their way home, but had to hide because of the gunshots.

Lagos State Police Command @LagosPoliceNG

POLICE RESTORE NORMALCY IN OWODE ONIRIN AFTER DEADLY CLASH BETWEEN TRADERS AND LAND GRABBERS, DECLARE ONE ABIODUN ARIORI, CEO OF PROSPEROUS ARIORI GOLDEN VENTURE LIMITED, WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE KILLING OF THREE PERSONS AND SEVERE INJURY TO A POLICE INSPECTOR NOW ON DANGER LIST IN THE HOSPITAL. AND ALSO RESTORED LAW AND ORDER PROMPTLY IN BALOGUN MARKET AFTER A PUBLIC FIGHT BETWEEN HOODLUMS AND MISCREANTS AROUND BALOGUN MARKET

The Lagos State Police Command swiftly responded to the recent unrest in the Owode Onirin area of Lagos State and restored normalcy, peace, law and order to the affected area.

Consequent on the disturbance of public peace, law and order, blocking of highways and roads leading in and out of Owode Onirin Market as a result of the deadly clash between traders and land grabbers, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh personally led a combined team of Police detachment comprising personnel of the Command’s operations department, the Police Mobile Force, Rapid Response Squad, Tactical squads and Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to the affected area and normalcy was restored. The roads were reopened to traffic and people started going about their lawful businesses.

To sustain the normalcy, the Commissioner of Police has retained the deployment of adequate police personnel at the scene of the incident to prevent resurgence of the crisis.

During the clash between the traders and the land grabbers, three persons sustained fatal injuries and a Police Inspector was seriously injured. The three fatally injured persons were confirmed dead when they were rushed to the hospital by the Police, while the Police Inspector injured is in a critical and life-threatening condition at the hospital where he is receiving treatment.

In the cause of preliminary investigation and prima facie evidences available, one Abiodun Ariori, CEO of Prosperous Ariori Golden Venture Limited, is connected to the deadly clash between the traders and the land grabbers. He is hereby declared wanted by the Lagos State Police Command as all efforts to effect his arrest and bring him to justice has so far proved abortive. It is very clear that he has gone into hiding.

The wanted suspect, Abiodun Ariori, whose photograph is attached, with last known address in Egbeda, is dark in complexion. If seen, should be arrested and hand over to the nearest police station or call the Lagos State Police Command control room on 08063299264, 09053872208, 08127155150, email: lagosstatepolicecommandikeja@gmail.com or wherever he is, he should turn himself in at the nearest police station.

In furtherance to ensuring justice and in compliance with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, four policemen, brought in from outside Lagos State by the wanted suspected land grabber, were immediately identified and detained at the Command headquarters for orderly room trial for going on illegal duty with the wanted suspect. The outcome of the investigation into the case and the trial of the policemen will be made public.

The Lagos State Police Command hereby wish to inform the general public that there was no tribal clash or disturbance between any ethnic groups and the others inside Balogun Market today.

There was an incident of a free-for-all fight between some hoodlums and miscreants in the Balogun Market in the early hours of today at around 11am. During the fight, one Ebuka Adindu from Abia State stabbed one Sodiq Ibrahim from Kogi State to death and the said Ebuka Adindu in turn stabbed himself on the shoulder and became unconscious. He is currently under arrest in the hospital where he is being treated. Investigation into the matter will be concluded and he will be prosecuted after he has been discharged from the hospital. There was no loss of innocent lives or injury to any person or damage to goods and properties of marketers inside Balogun Market.

The Lagos State Police Command wish to reiterate that the incident is not a tribal clash but purely between miscreants and hoodlums around the Balogun Market.

Normalcy has been restored. Marketers and the general public on the Island and other parts of Lagos State are encouraged to go about their businesses and other lawful endeavors without fear or apprehension.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, calls on all residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with the police Command to sustain existing peace in the state and not to spread fear in the mind of the public as Lagos is generally peaceful.

Imagine this incoherent narratives, information received earlier was that the said Ebuka got fighting with Sadiq and the Sadiq stabbed him and in defense,he stabbed back the Sadiq, which resulted to his death. This sounds more realistic,Nigeria police must carry out proper investigation on this matter devoid of influence from the top. Those involved, when found guilty must be treated as criminals.
Violence of any form must be condemned in its totality and those stoking the embers of disunity in Lagos, just for political interest must be careful before they reap what they are sowing.
Come 2027,the voice of the people must once again be heard in Lagos and Nigeria...God bless the good people of Nigeria.

Land that you met here on earth and will leave here on earth is what humans battle for.

You sold it to them, why go back to reclaim what you sold?

They are not only criminals but terrorists. After collecting money for starting building on the land you purchased with full documents oo, any renovation in the house years later, those people would still be disturbing

One thing i love about the Yorubas, they are ready to fight anyone.

They fight Hausas.
They fight fulanis.
They fight igbos.
They fight their traditional rulers.
They fight themselves.

I thought according to you people it is only Igbos that fight for land ? and that the state of Oyo alone is bigger than the entire south east so land in not an issue for you people?

so what is causing this fight again?

They wake up on day to try and forcefully reclaim land sold after over 50yrs.
You hear some of them alleging that his late father's signature was forged on the purchase receipt.

If you want to really understand this people, go back and read their history, to most them they are in war mode for supremacy especially against Igbos, go and check all the fights they fought each other before the British came it was fight for supremacy within themselves, the thing is beginning to look like something ingrained in their DNA, look at their Obas doing the same thing already, that's what unites them against other tribes especially the Igbos

When a people have a culture of Land Grabbing, it is difficult to overcome. They will even sell the land outright when it's swampy and busy, but as soon as effort is made to recover/reclaim the land for developmental purposes, either they deny selling the land or demand perpetual royalty.

It's not an incoherent narrative. As a matter of fact, the police report seem more plausible than yours or what you might have heard. If the said Sodiq from Kogi had stabbed Ebuka from Abia first, where would Ebuka get the strength to overpower Sodiq, dispossess him of the said dagger, and fatally stabbed him back? It's not realisitic.

The Ebuka guy stabbed Sodiq first which led to his death. On seeing that the mob was on to him, he attempted to off himself first, before the police arrived.

Infact, the reason the mob left him alone was because they assumed he had killed himself whereas he was just unconscious all the while.

Yorubas have never fought hausas of fulanis. The Yoruba man will prefer to run away, I guess it's because they know a typical hausa man will easily draw a dagger on you while an Igbo or other tribesman will try to maintain sanctity of life.

Check history, there has been numerous clashes of Yoruba and Hausa in the SW but none between Yoruba and other tribe
