God bless you!

In this hot climate, some people will now wear suits, all in the name of looking corporate...

How does wearing something that belongs to another culture make you look corporate where you can wear your native and look okay.
Why not ask stooppid Nigerian lawyers who still wear wig and gown developed for another climate!

That's why I like how Saudis are treating the west especially the western culture... Nothing concerns the Saudi with your suit and tie, when they are coming for a meeting with you even if you are the president of the free world... They come in their normal white Saudi flowing gown and they make you sweat in your suits and tie...

Lawyers will soon learn this... In fact, I heard lawyers in Singapore or one of the Asian countries have challenged this archaic wear and have won..

Na so life suppose be...... Imagine working for a boss who sees and respects you and you on your own parts replicates same too.........your work go dey sweet you to dey do.

Reminds me of one mumu bookshop sales boys work I did some years ago.....The bookshop owner made it mandatory that I must be putting on corporate wears to work from Mondays to Fridays....Untop salary wey no pass 10k angry. I had no option then, but had to manage it until I saved up some money and started working in my bros bakery then...... Funniest thing was that immediately I stopped working there, that was the end of his bookshop cuz he couldn't find any other person who was ready to dance to his tone angry

What people don't know is, even if you own your business, your workers are also stakeholders like you. But the moment you let them know they're not, loyalty fly away.

Foolish CEO....When his mates are busy thinking of using 20 million to japa and be doing menial job, driving Uber and doing care jobs in Canada, UK and Europe while in USA will be doing 3 jobs day in and out with one shift after another ! Living on pay heck and credit arc ...he used his own to go and open a firm ! He isn't a smart man...he should join the japa train !

In a country that his mates are running away ,he is thriving as a CEO and doing fantastic.... While his mates are thinking of Japa and be doing 2 jobs a day living in cubicle and working pay check to pay check

It is all about mentality...in a country of 220 million people...opportunities yapa ,while clowns are Japa with money that will be used for better ... Well it's cool so that competition will be less

One thing about life is that.... Some people are created to slave and work for people forever while sokw people are created to get people working for them

Some people are destined to be earning salary till they die and while sokw people are designed to be paying people salary till they die

This is what I call true professionalism. It's all about finding the right work and life balance.

In saner climes, they have long since done away with the outdated practice of spending long hours sitting in an office/cubicle/workstation with little personal time left for yourself.

In the modern workplace true productivity comes from effective time management and not the drudgery that out of touch Nigerian employers love to impose on their workers.
Lol, just dey play. Hope US no dey part of the saner clime you dey refer to?

I kicked off my career in one of the top financial institutions. We resumed at 7:20am sharp, and you don’t close until the vault balances - technically, there was no closing time. You fit enter branch by 8pm, all man go dey face computer like the day just started.

Dress code? Non-negotiable. Strictly blue or grey suits, paired with white or blue shirts, with black shoes. Two Saturdays every month were always taken from you either for one training, Monthly Review or ATM monitoring.

The environment? Fast-paced, unpredictable, and unforgiving. One minute you’re in operations, the next you’re shipped to another department—no notice, no excuses. And you’re expected to perform like a pro in weeks.

Targets were wild: ATM cards, Internet Banking, account reactivations, deposit mobilisation, and even shares. Imagine being in operations and still having a deposit target! 😅

Truth is, I hated that job. The atmosphere was always “hot,” even with the AC blasting. But looking back, it shaped me. It was a battlefield that drilled you, stretched you, and squeezed out your best.

If you could survive there, you could survive anywhere.
If you could make it there, you could make it anywhere.

That place was tough… but it made me tougher.

I always stood out among my peers in all the other organisations that I joined afterwards. My commitment to work, passion for getting things done, dedication, dressing, my carriage, customer service skills, email/telephone etiquette, etc.

Sometimes.. It's good to start your career like a soldier!

Awoooooooooooooooooooooo!
Well done, but these things you mentioned are why I dislike commercial banks. Life shouldn’t be this difficult. The atmosphere you described is almost like the investment banking atmosphere in the US only those ones get paid wayyyy more for this kind of stress.

Good that it shaped you, hopefully you will create a better atmosphere for those below you in your own business since you hated it.

Person tell you say him dey run marketing and advertising company and you didn't stop to think he's marketing to you with lamba. He's good sha, he got the attention.

You say your are the top number 3 advertising agency in Nigeria. Lol... I guess your competitors are playing with sand while your workers are arriving work at 10am and sleeping on the job. Shift Abeg! If you say you are #3, I assume you have high paying, highly demanding clients with crazy work in the pipeline every single day. How does your company meet deadline with all the nonsense you listed? Those agency ahead of your and those competing with don't do overtime I guess.

I won't have blink an eye if he didn't claim his company is the top #3 marketing agency. I'd have just assume they are just cruising in his company and sooner or later body go tell am.

This post really touch you. Seems like you’re one of the old bosses they are talking about.

In Lagos people live in far areas around Ogun state because of the low salaries they are paid and have to commute to the island everyday. Some wake as early as 4am and arrive at the office by 7am. That’s 4 unproductive hours of the day wasted. By 7am at the office most try to catch one hour of sleep before 8am when work starts.

Have you measured the time loss and drain on productivity due to this burnout to compare if those employees are actually giving you their best? Like it or not we are all humans and anyone under such conditions 5 or 6 days a week is likely to burnout.

This young man has figured that unconventional work style works best for him. It’s his competitors business how they handle theirs. Imagine if more bosses allowed 10am resumption, Lagos traffic will ease a little. Also people work harder when you trust them because they want to prove they are capable. Working from home actually makes people more productive.

I remember doing one work like that, they were telling me they like how I dressed to the interview. That I need to keep up with that type of dressing when I resume. Meanwhile, the money they were offering as salary may not be able to buy the shoe I wore that day.

This reminds me of my experience when I traveled to Europe for a short training. One of the staff pick his power bike and left saying he is going for skyeing or so, that the weather or the sea in good for skyeing, he just got notification on his phone.

So I ask my trainer who happened to be a CO owner of the business why the guy is going for that when he is on duty, he said there is no problem about that, when the guy comes back he will continue his work. I was just quiet.

I later discovered that their work there is not the same with what we are doing in Nigeria, the employee are very free over there, particularly in that area that I went, may not be for the whole Europe sha.

Millennials my ballpark age 35-45 years have been doing it so it is not new. Na the Millennials wey no dey exposed still dey stress people for office. They know me in my work place I don't wear suit. And if I feel like I will wear tie. I taught in a school in Lagos. Suit and tie mandatory from Monday to Friday. The suit I no dey wear the tie na Monday and Tuesday I dey rock am. I can't be stressing myself because of how much

Not all europe try some UK companies who are superficial racist. They are worse than some Nigerian companies. But most companies in US treat their workers fairly

It’s good if they don’t abuse it.

Well said.

One of the things that disgusts me the most for we lawyers is the wig and gown. It is such a ridiculous colonial outfit especially in this weather. In most court rooms, lawyers sit like Christmas goats while wearing a garb meant for European courts of centuries gone by.

It is sickening.
I intend to present a petition to the Bar Association to start the process to drop it.
Hahaha Pele.

I haven't worn my wig and gown in almost two years. Still good as new. cheesy
