Police Arrest Driver With ₦1 Million Fake Currency In Oyo by Borrow2222(op): 9:18am On Aug 31, 2025
The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended a driver for allegedly transporting N1 million in counterfeit banknotes.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Ibadan on Saturday.

He said the driver was stopped by the Federal Highway Patrol Team during a routine check on Friday evening.

“The suspect was intercepted at around 8:45 pm near the Guru Maharaj Ji area on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway while driving a green Sienna with Lagos registration FKJ 443 YG,” Osifeso said.

Officers grew suspicious of the driver’s behaviour and searched the vehicle.

“We discovered approximately N1,000,000 in N1,000-denomination notes.

“The cash had only three serial numbers: ₦500,000 (235923), ₦300,000 (235922), and ₦200,000 (235921), all wrapped in a transparent plastic parcel sealed with tape,” he added.

When questioned, the driver claimed he was acting as a courier, having received the package from an unidentified person in Ojota, Lagos, and was instructed to deliver it to Osogbo, Osun State, without being given the recipient’s name or contact information.

He also said he was told the parcel contained body cream.

Osifeso reassured the public that the police remain committed to combating currency fraud and other financial crimes that threaten the economy and community safety.

He added that investigations are ongoing and urged citizens to report suspicious activities.

“We call on the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement in curbing financial crimes,” he said.

I believe the driver's story especially if he is a commercial vehicle driver. This is another example of the risks involved in this waybill business.

Commercial drivers should be extra careful when accepting goods or parcels for delivery

He knew who the owner is, he is only lying. How can you collect a parcel and you don't know who the owner is and no phone number to contact them when you gets to the said destination.

I on the other hand don't believe the story. 1. They usually check the content of the package. I have done this several times. 2. They collect the number of the recipients and usually called to confirm the owner.

If he is telling the truth, all he needs is to take undercover police to Osogbo and call the recipient to come for his waybill.

I don't believe the driver. How can you not have contact information of the person or place you're delivering? The sender information is not that important ...the receiver is. The Police are very shallow ..... shouldn't it be common sense for the Police at that point to follow the driver the destination and arrest whoever comes to collect? I guess they're afraid that person is a big boy so they decided to charge the driver. Cowards everywhere.

Waybill is risky business. You might just pick up a parcel to deliver, not know you have just picked some years behind the bar

Let there be a thorough investigation! It's possible for a driver to accept a package without knowing the content but it's not possible that he would not have the phone number of the sender and the recipient.

What kind of business is he doing if he could just accept a package blindly without contacts? Was he not paid for the delivery? If the package has got lost in transit, would he not have identified the owners when they come calling for it?

Then you didn't read the write-up if you believe the drivers story. How will you collect a parcel without picking or calling the recipient. You still didn't even have the number of the sender. C'mon, the police is majorly corrupt, but on this, they are correct.

why was the driver behaviour become suspicious when he see those officer. Commercial driver know almost all police, road safety, army, civil defense office of the route they play on daily basis. Phone number and name of receiver should have be on the package too.

he would have charged the person a huge sum for it. Think about it, do you think anyone would accept a waybill without seeing what was being waybill?

don't mind them, they don't want check points and they want crime to cease. Without check points guns and drugs would be moved without stress.
