The August 30th Rivers State LGA election wasn’t democracy, it was its funeral.

Let’s not forget: earlier this year, the Supreme Court nullified the LGA elections conducted under Governor Fubara, ruling them unconstitutional and ordering the CBN and Accountant-General to halt funding to the state until a properly constituted House of Assembly was in place.

Instead of complying, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers suspending the governor, lawmakers, and democratic institutions installing an unelected sole administrator. This administrator has now conducted a so-called "election" with no legal backing, no oversight, and no constitutional authority.

Worse still, during this period, local government funds continued to be disbursed, despite the Supreme Court’s ruling and without elected LG chairmen in place.

The fact that Wike remains complicit, supportive of this democratic backsliding only adds insult to injury. He is the only one talking, the only voter in the sham LG election

This isn't governance, it’s authoritarianism in disguise. Democracy has been trampled, and Rivers State, Nigeria as a whole is paying the price.

The situation in Rivers State alone provides sufficient grounds for the president to be impeached. The Nigerian Constitution is being blatantly violated
