I Currently Have A Remote Job That Pays Over ₦400k by AngelSlay(op): 4:00pm On Aug 31, 2025
From DM
I currently have a remote job that pays over ₦500k (Monday to Friday only). The good part is, my boss usually comes online in the afternoons, so I have my mornings free and still get some personal time.

Recently, I received another offer for a restaurant manager role that pays ₦250k. The job is six days a week with one off-day, plus daily feeding and HMO after six months. Transport to the place will cost about ₦1k daily.

I also have a young family of two, and my wife is running her own business.

Because of the current situation in the country, I’m tempted to take on the restaurant job alongside my remote work. But I’m not sure if it’s the right move.

Please, I need some advice.

Just weigh the mode of operation of the restaurant job… if it doesn’t give you time to effectively do you remote.. forget it

Don’t go and use less than 250k to impair guaranteed 400k

Look for another online hustle instead. What if you're at work in the restaurant and your remote boss needs you?

You already have a good thing going with your remote job. it pays better, gives you time in the mornings, and still lets you be around your family. That flexibility is gold, especially in Nigeria right now where traffic, stress, and “waka waka” can eat into your energy.

Now, the restaurant offer looks tempting because ₦250k + feeding + HMO sounds like extra security. But let’s be real: that role is not a side hustle type of job. Restaurant management is hands-on, you’ll be on your feet, solving issues, working late sometimes, and giving up weekends. Add transport (₦1k daily = ~₦26k a month), and the stress might cost you more than the extra money brings.

Also think about this: you have a young family. The more time you spend out of the house, 🏡 the less energy and presence you’ll have for your kids and wife. Sometimes, the hidden cost of chasing more money is being too drained to actually enjoy the family you’re working so hard for.

So my brother, my honest advice is

Stick with your remote job.

Use those free mornings wisely — support your wife’s business (so the profit stays at home), or build a side hustle that doesn’t lock you down physically.

If you must chase an extra ₦250k, look for freelance or contract work online. That way, you’re still at home, flexible, and earning in a way that grows your skillset, not just burning energy in another job.

The country is tough, yes, but your setup right now is better long-term. More money doesn’t always mean better life — sometimes peace of mind + family time + skill growth beats hustling 2 stressful jobs.

Poverty is really a bad thing.
So someone earning N500k is unimaginable to you, it means nobody in your circle of family earns up to N500k because if they do N500k pay won't be unimaginable to you....

I feel really sad for you tho.
Unfortunately look at your comments all over Nairaland, one cannot be surprised that you are this level tho.
You really can't go very far with your low level of reasoning anyways.
I don't know but I feel really sad for you.
I hope you don't have children or planning to get married and have children? They don't deserve this

Take it from someone who has managed a hotel and bar with a small restaurant—it’s draining and exhausting. As a manager, I was practically on call 24/7, even on my supposed days off, because issues with accounts or other matters always came up that only I could handle. At the same time, I was taking an online Cybersecurity course, which is similar to your remote job. The combination stretched me beyond imagination, and I eventually had to quit earlier this year.

Honestly, the best move would be to either pick up a smaller remote role on the side or explore freelance platforms to boost your 500k income. Anything beyond that is a recipe for burnout, in my humble opinion 😔.

Learn Youtube as a second job. You have all the time in the world to do so. Go on X and add some gurus. They will show you the way. YouTube is goldmine so tap into the faceless own. The 250k job is just a distraction, stay focused.

What you need is an offline job you can control yourself

Get like 3 POS share for 3 Sales boy/girl, and give them target then find a good location for them

Atleast your cash will remain, even if them no too make profit at first

Getting another job will hurt your remote work.

I don't see anything distraction about multitasking one's self as long as it doesn't conflict with the other job demands since it's remote.
As professionals you are not supposed to restrict your expertise on one single job except you very comfortable.
Doctors work in the hospitals, teach in the universities and also engage in private practice.
Why can't a professionals like the OP do same?

I get the point, but sometimes paying attention to setbacks is necessary. Ignoring them completely can let small problems grow into bigger ones. And not all multitasking is bad — it depends on how it's done and what you're trying to achieve. The key is knowing when to focus and when to pivot. Happy Sunday 😊

Guy stop Missing Out, people are cashing out online as remote workers. Always remember to ask for updates. I earn 1.2 million as a remote worker, and I don't even have a university degree. I'm supposed to work for 8 hours every day, but I get the job done in about 3 hours daily and let my Clockify run! Africa is now a hotspot for remote jobs because many international companies are looking to Africans for cheaper labor. The only problem we're currently facing is the issue of trust; otherwise, there are countless jobs available online.
My advice for you is to forget about your overrated Nigerian degree and learn a tech skill. I earn 4dollar per hour right here in Nigeria. There are many tech skills you can learn for free.

Okay, let me give you one update. Go and register for BYU Pathway. It's run by a religious-based university, one of the best in the world. It is almost free! They will even give you a laptop after your Pathway program through their partner. While studying through BYU Pathway, you may also have access to some free online courses from Google. You can also register on Coursera, and within 6 months, you can get a tech certificate course of your choice. While studying, go and create a LinkedIn account, and within 9 months, you have an 80\% chance of earning 500k per month.

You don't need those big-sounding Nigerian degrees to get a good remote job. Essential skills you'll need are: Good communication and writing skills. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite. Collaborative skills (like using Zoom, Google Meet, Google Docs, etc.).

A one-time offer, to call me, and I will guide you this once. Our agreement is that I cannot talk to you more than one time. Before you call me, make sure you have a pen and paper ready so that you don't forget anything. I can only pick your call once and will then allow you to figure things out through the internet and networking because i am a busy type. Enjoy your day! 👋
