Dennisochampa:But they earn reasonably enough in those countries to live in comfort. What a Nigerian Professor earns in a monthl cannot even pay for his flight ticket , if he is to attend academic conference abroad. Still studying towards my Professional Doctorate and working full-time with my Msc, what I earn in one and half day of work (net pay), is more than what a Nigerian Professor earns in a month....it is really sad. |

Shawarmagirl:I want to disagree with you. The people voted for their politicians to earn billions, so why complain? If we as a people decide to vote only for politicians who vow to cut their salaries, we wouldn't have this nonsense. They don't even campaign to cut their salaries because they know that the people don't demand it of them. Elections are in 2 years, we as a people could decide to vote only for politicians who campaign to cut down the huge wages. |

WAEC, NECO and even NEPA bill certificate holders, employs PhD holders to help them rig elections, this same PhD holders expect the secondarians to perform excellently on the world stage where, it takes more than PhD for a president to out marnover other countries to the advantage of their own countries. Talking about a good lawyer wining a case for a yahoo boy and the yahoo boy paying him with a fake credit alert. |

Dennisochampa:Who said that lecturers should earn more than lawmakers? The issue is the wage gap between political office holders and civil servants. Why should your LGA councillor earn way more than a primary school teacher? Below is the google AI feedback on the comparative salary of university lecturers and congressmen. A US Congressional salary in 2025 is $199,400, while the average US professor salary can vary significantly, with a broad range from roughly $70,000 to over $200,000 annually, with average professor salaries often around $112,139 per year. |

The same Professors that rig elections for the politicians. Stop rigging elections. Allow votes to count and select the right people to lead |

University lecturers are within a school while a senator is within a district. They both control different and wide colony |

Ecclesiastes 9.11 (KJV) 11I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. |

Mindlog:If we are to be fair enough or be realistic, we shouldn't be comparing what senators earned with that of university professors. Senators are elected for a limited period of time, and aside that, it cost a fortune for someone to contest in elections in this part of the world. Some of these people sold their properties and took up huge loan to get to that position. They spent alot of money for protection, and some don't even enjoy their lives with their wives and children. They sacrifice alot to earned the price. I don't even subscribe to idea of increase salary, just make life be bearable to an average Nigerian. Food should be the cheapest or least thing a modern man should be worrying about. It should in abundance that a 10 days pay of an average worker should be enough to pay off his/her bills for a month. |

anonimi:Did you comprehend my post at all? Since you know being a senator can make you richer, go and join politics now and let those that that are ok with the salaries or lower remain in the system. After all, many of these professors are not even productive as expected. Even many of those that collected grants for researches die out of the way to waste funds. Some of them are only good at sex for mark. If you know money is in UK, go there and collect your own UK money, let those that are ok with Nigeria pay stay behind |

It's unfortunate how these Profs think. What are the teachers earning in the country? If you want to earn as much as politicians, go and contest elections and see how it is. There is no where in the world where Professors earn as much as politicians. I expect these professors to join hands with the masses to fight corruption in the country but rather they want to be as rich as thieves. No wonder the university system is as corrupt as these useless politicians. |

sreamsense:A very senseless post from a disgruntled element who's projecting his academic failures on those who succeeded. Whatever you're "hustling" today had its root from the academia! I don't blame you! Do you know that intellectual property is the best asset anyone can have in this world and so, should never be priced cheap be it in the academia, private sector or government employment? I don't think your ilk would know! |

Politics and professorship are two different things, if 90% of professors dabbles into politics ; almost all of them will come back to their lecturing work immediately. Politics is very dirty. |

fernandoc:Your frustration shows you are already being punished in greater dimension! Don't be lazy, go out there to guzzle for your money is never a crime. Many professors and PhD are outside academic environment hustling for their money legitimately since the government pay is not enough for them. You have not committed crime for doing so, only laziness can hold you back. Even if you are paid N10,000 000; in two years, it will still not be enough for you. Since you are already frustrated, pointing four fingers of your curses at yourself and remaining one finger reserved for your family, no need for me to add more for you. I can only pray for you that your eyes of understanding will open so you can work your way to wealth. No employer can make you rich, if you want to become rich like Dangote or Elon musk, go and work it out yourself or remove your tie and go back to farm |

Jokerman:There is nothing like right people as far as Nigeria politics is concerned. Let stop deceiving ourselves that there are right people in Nigeria. The current political structure or arrangement will never ever allow anyone to perform excellently. Besides, no government will give them the kind of salary being paid to their counterpart abroad in Nigeria. Where will such government get money to do so for all unproductive government workers? The same Professors you are defending will not think twice to throw entire youths or students under the boss if Government ask them to increase school fees and get more pays. |

It's absurdity and myopic to be comparing these earnings! Is it peculiar to Nigeria? Nobody ever mentioned the ideal amount to be earned by both parties! One is elected and represents thousands of families while the other was appointed by his employer to fend for his or her immediate family or relatives not more than few tens! |
